851 will see drastic drop in ridership. Which isnt bad for commuters from Yishun and AMK. More direct. A totally much more viable alternative to NSL than 851 is for people going to CBD. Excellent move by SBST to provide competition to SMRT NSL. That is why I said it would have been a conflict of interest for SMRT to win Seletar.
857 will be slightly affected as well.... in direct competition with SMRT at the Little India / Bencoolen junction.
Now, we wait and hope for SBST to win Sembawang-Yishun. Then we will have 167e / 980e. With Yishun Ave 8 fully completed, 167e / 980e direct from Sembawang to go up CTE while bypassing Yishun will be possible.
Won't be surprised if DDs are transferred from 851 to 851e.

Hi mr AntiDennisLance, this is not excellent move by sbst to provide 851E. Route planning is now by LTA just in case you do not know yet. Cheers. Thanks.

I know that. But this would not have happened if SMRT is still operating 851 - they would oppose and block any LTA efforts to introduce 851e.

SMRT always plan for 850e first, before moving on to 851e.

Was expecting 851e to pop up anytime soon, kinda expected it tbh given how 851 was the most probable candidate to to have a limitied stop variant.
I don't think 851's loading will take a huge dip as it is well utilized between Bukit Merah and Chinatown and also between Bishan and CBD where 851e will not cover. However, I still think 851e is a good move as it can compensate for the lack of high-capacity buses on 851 since post-transition to SBST...

SMRT most probably retain its current 3 contracts. If lucky they might get Jurong too. Refer to my map for the ideal post-2027 allocation of route packages.

Previously, only the buses unit was making money for TIBS. All the other units (taxis, motors, seven seas marina, leasing etc) were all depending on the buses unit to feed money to them.
What happened to Seven Seas Marina?

TEL will pour cold water on any plans for 167e.
The 851e should be amended via Parliament Place, St Andrew's Rd and go into the Stamford Rd.
now all up to LTA scheduling for 851e... anyway 851e likely candidate for NSE

No idea. I only know I was looking at the books and TIBS buses was the only unit in the black. That was in the early 1990's.

Currently bus division is doing quite well but unfortunately for taxis..That’s why AMDEP don’t repair taxis anymore.

I have been pushing for an 80e for years.. in the form of 80X.. Hopefully it comes true

Don't agree. Now, most of the BU in SMRT not making money. Only buses. Trains not profitable due to the monies pumped in for the track renewal works, paying other bus operators to assist in ECLO shuttle bus etc

if LTA feel that the demand for sv851 does not warrant more DDs, then it is a puzzle that they introduce 851e (and even more puzzles, if they deploy full DDs on 851e)....

It may also be the case where the demand is low precisely due to the long winding route of 851.. which deters the actual largest catch which is between the city and AMK/Yishun..
And hence 851e and its DD fleet.. there, I solved your puzzle..
LOL we don't know the fleet for 851e yet anyway... don't know if it is going to DD yet anyway.

How do you know SMRT block LTA efforts when LTA is the big boss? They can also reject 110 & 944 mah...You cannot biased just because you don’t like SMRT mah.

Roughly we know why they need 100 plus TF Shuttle drivers now right? The first 50 drivers is on loan from WTS and Aedge due to last minute LTA project and now they slowly recruiting more drivers for TF to reduce cost in future.

the demand is not low... you can see the A22 packed during am peak towards city...
for the demand from yishun to city, i dunno then..but then most ppl still prefer MRT esp during off peak. further that portion of CTE which 851e ply is alway jam....
it is best that they start with SD (they can put the DDs on 851, and transfer A22 to 851e). if the demand is high on 851e, they can easily do the switching.)

A large portion of 851's demand is due to pax transferring to CCL via marymount mrt. During AM peak, fully packed A22s towards BM are only fully seated (or with a few standees) after mrm mrt bus stop.
Most people travelling from yis to the city rather take mrt/850E/857 as those are definitely faster. 851e could be aimed that relieving the load of those (esp NSL) rather than mainly 851 itself

There are 7 B9TL & 2 A95 on storage.

Possible for LTA to give all to SBST for 851e
