Surprisingly Tower Transit also got a Volvo B8L chassis as they open a new centre for excellence.
SG4003D for 94
just saw SG4003D on Lornie Road heading towards Thomson area
Since SG4003D is based on HG and Eunos, it might appear on 60 and 154 probably.
debut on 94 today
2018 has come and this bus STILL couldn't feature a PIS and new doors.
But this is clearly not the fault of Volvo.
SMC Transit had the ability to provide automatic ramps, yet couldn't update its door design which has been in use since 15 years ago. Outdated, and more importantly, shown to be dangerously filmsy.
LTA had it worse, to be oblivious, perhaps nonchalant even, to such a problem despite repeated chances to change the design. Furthermore, its inability to include any PIS, even in its simplest form and despite numerous attempts since years ago, reflects its incapability in fulfilling its promise to provide world class transport which it prides to rival that of HK.
Don't be deceived that innovation drives costs upwards. Costs are driven by the inadequate management of revenue and operation procedures. Such forms of innovation are not ground-breaking, they are CONVENTIONALLY AVAILABLE technologies that have long been adopted by many other countries, which means that these technologies are not patented or sparse in supply, assuming demand drives supply. As such, these technologies would not necessitate a huge surge in costs to acquire.
Dont ger me wrong, the new design looks stunning and many other features are still added. However, I still hope this bus will lose out to the A95 and be rejected. That is, until LTA realises the great potential of this make and really fix the long revolving problems.
Since 94 don't operate on Sundays and PHs. Hope that it's will operate on other service.

Most probably just follow SBST spec

Unbelievable laziness by LTA. They did not even bother to spec out the new buses they are trialling with the features and technology they themselves claim are looking to test and implement.

SG5999Z is currently operated by SBS Transit and the LCD PIS are switched off.
SG4002G's window PIS were also turned off during the second part of SMRT's trial. The overhead ones were showing company logos.
But hey, someone can go lobby for LTA to replace SMC Transit doors from all 2,500 current buses to Masats doors just because we can. Don't forget to ask LTA to put the manufacturer's logo the size of Trump so that nobody can miss them.

This clearly shows the failure and inefficiency of the LTA in its schemes. More importantly, it reflects how things by LTA never lasts long, and the things LTA do never sustain.
Regarding the doors it's either you are missing the point, or you are being plain snide with your sarcastic remarks. Either way, I'll take you on your best and reiterate once more: it's 2018, and any new makes of buses, particularly this BRAND NEW B8L, deserves some new door model.
Hahaha, even though it look modern from outside but feel retro inside.
