Hope so

What is the whole point of having an auto ramp if the BC has to come out of his cabin anyway?

Probably for the manufacturer to mark up the price. I don't know, just guessing.
From the YouTube videos, it looks like the button is at the ceiling. If they can adjust the position to a level that is reachable to the wheelchair users, the wheelchair users would be able to operate the ramp themselves, without any help from the bus driver.
Also, why is it that the closing is not smooth? From the YouTube videos, I see that the door has to open and close again as the ramp retreats to the bus.

Bode's design didn't require the doors to move one bit. And that was more than 15 years ago, in Perth.
This project is not being taken seriously. Either the manufacturer thinks that the massive order is already in the bag, or they do not think an order will come and so it is not worth the effort to do more.
Wait. Before we dwell into this, we have to understand that this feature was not in the design when the bus was first purchased. That's why we need to customise the auto ramp feature on our own.
As to why the operations is not smooth, it's because the bus was not designed to have the auto ramp, and the auto ramp is later then add in one, that's why now got this problem.
Because the configuration of the bus with ramp and without ramp is different, and the ramp is later then ownself add in one, that's why the ramp cannot open and close smoothly without having the door open and close during the process.
I believe it's just for this bus. Newer buses that come with auto ramp may not have this problem, because the auto ramp would be built into the bus; no need for customisation.

What do you mean by customize? These should have been standard features.
The automatic ramp is integrated into the door design, because they work together with the operation of the ramp switch. I am fine with it slightly open if the need be, but the door should not slam shut during deployment - waiting passengers will not feel comfortable, and for kids it is an accident waiting to happen.

In that case, someone is trying to peddle their wares...and LTA obviously has no clue why they would want an automatic ramp in the first place.
Whatever happened to intuitive design?!
At this rate, we are going to have several SG5999Zs and SG4002Gs down the road. And each bus is going to have directional stickers every 1m apart as what you already find on SG5999Z, and passengers will continue to ignore them.

Both of them are manual wheelchair ramps.
SG5835 should be rotating between sv 130/133/70/76 in the coming months....
SG5835M >> 76
Might even cameo 70,130 or 133..and also dont write off non seletar (but still under Amkdep) services like 13,22,25,72 and so on.
@Mr TIB585L, thanks for your answer and info.

Wish it could cameo on 166.

I think SG5999Z will go to SBST after TTS trial ended
Its either SG5999Z transfer to SBST or remain at TT. Redeploy to 106 if the latter outcome happens.
