All, any thoughts on bukit panjang LRT revamp? Possible take over by buses? If so, we might witness 3-5 new bus services launch. Cheers. Thanks.
About time this thread comes up... Even tho I wasnt expecting one since this is bus forum (nevertheless lots of room to discuss here worry not)
I am in strong disfavour of the shutting down of the LRT system... Reason primarily being so much taxpayers money have been invested into the initial system, AND the many recent upgrades to the system (eg. C801A, CCK platforms, BP MRT xfer). Do so much alr, just use la!! SMRT just trying to evade responsibility for the upkeep of the LRT system...
Run buses on LRT tracks lo "takeover by buses"

Hi mr SMB128B, but to bus lovers, it may not be a bad news. This may lead to more bus services being implemented as a important substitute. Bukit panjang bus interchange is also coming up very soon. If not wrong, end of this year right? Cheers. Thanks.
Why do I have an uneasy feeling of 200 A95's going over to Bukit Panjang to fill up 10 new feeder services??

Hi mr antidennislance, bukit panjang needs another 10 new feeder services? So many? Is it too extreme? Cheers. Thanks.

I dont know. BPJ is a pampered town.

Hi mr antidennislance, I can only say I agree it is pampered if you compare bukit panjang to choa Chu Kang or yew tee. Cheers. Thanks.
Might as well scrap SK and PG LRT also.
But then again, the Mitsubishi Crystal Movers haven't given much trouble. Even CGA chose them to replace the Bombardier Innovias, which are still serving on the BPLRT.

Heh sorry... But I dont champion my hobby over the needs of other people... If it is ridiculous to replace the system with buses (which I personally feel is), I definitely would not endorse it...

Actually, LTA can consider a Bus Rapid Transit system to replace the Bt Panjang LRT. Just some conversion of the existing LRT tracks will do.
I foresee a new LRT line replacing the BPLRT.

Was thinking of that... But until a driverless bus is invented and used in SG I doubt LTA will find it feasible...
actually, take over by buses is possible. just bring back 343, 344 and 345 lor. simple.
Originally posted by gekpohboy:but then hor, if all-bus system cannot replace LRT, then why they scrap the Jurong LRT plans? :/
Jurong LRT plans should have been included in part of the new Jurong Region Line which is yet to be finalised.
Why not upgrade BPLRT with more reliable crystal movers instead of adtranz CX100s.

Hi mr gekpohboy, what are the 3 routes for 343, 344, 345? Cheers. Thanks.
Why are we even discussing this topic? Has there been any news that BPJLRT wil be demolished?
All the dollars spent in building it and getting the trains are okay to go down the drain?
I do agree LTA should have done better due diligence before launching LRT. It is a white elephant with high operational costs.
Easily Sengkang/Punggol could have been managed with feeder buses instead of building LRTs. Thankfully they understood and scrapped the Jurong Line LRT and will make it a longer MRT line.
The only LRT that makes some sense is BPJLRT because it connects two towns unlike Sengkang and Punggol. But BPLRT is also having major operational issues.

Hi mr busanalyser, we are discussing this topic because it is the latest transport news. I am afraid that you are not up to date with this. The authorities are discussing the various options as smrt has decided to find the best alternative. They are not demolishing it.
Why is it in this forum is because there is this option of replacing it with feeder bus services. So this being a bus forum, we are talking about bus alternatives to this bukit panjang LRT.
Seng Kang and Punggol are different cases as LRT is planned and built before the HDB flats. Thus they are very close to HDB flats and ridership is damn high. Bukit panjang is different case. LRT are built after flats are up. So land cannot be optimized to residents good effect. End up need connect 2 towns for higher ridership but still cannot capture enough ridership and lose money month after month. So your view of LRT being white elephant is not correct. Seng Kang has 2 cars LRT and Punggol will also have 2 cars LRT starting next yr. This speaks volume of high ridership. Cheers. Thanks.
Actually, to replace BPLRT with buses, we just nid a new bus ter. buses at CCK int can use new ter & make room for LRT-substitute buses.

Low ridership is not the problem... You clearly have not taken it before...
Esp after DTL2... trains are bursting at its seams... This explains CCK platforms 3/4
The problem is maintenance... If ridership is always the problem 501, 502 and 505 will still be around...

Hi mr SMB128B, the last time I took for Bukit panjang LRT was before DTL came in operation. That time it was few people. Take note I was comparing against number of people at sengkang and Punggol LRT. Maybe that gives it a slightly tweaked impression. Thanks for highlighting that after DTL2, it was full of people. Cheers. Thanks.

Hi mr busanalyser, are you able to propose 3 routes to cover all the LRT stops and significant areas for bukit panjang LRT routes without affecting the other bus services currently operating around bukit panjang and cck? Should be chicken feed for you as you are the bus expert. Cheers. Thanks.

If we replace BP LRT system with buses, what happens to the existing LRT structure? This is something we need to evaluate when we consider alternative options.
