Commuters will be able to enjoy more direct bus services from the heartlands to the Central Business District with the introduction of two new City Direct Services in the coming months.
The services will make two one-way trips each way on weekday morning and evening peak periods, excluding public holidays.
Service 671, which will begin on Oct 17, will travel from Sengkang to Marina Boulevard in the morning and back in the evening.
Travelling from Hougang to Marina Boulevard in the mornings and back again in the evenings, service 672 will begin on Nov 7.
Both services will be operated by Rui Feng Chartered.
Extra trips will also be added to nine of the existing 20 City Direct Services to meet the increasing demand for these services.
Thanks :)
I think it time to introduce direct bus services from the heartlands to the bonita vista area, biopolis, nus and science park during peak hours. too many to CBD area. circle line cannot make it during peak hours

Dunno if LTA would get private operators to operate premium buses … as for public buses, there could have been new services or diversions to 74/91/200, but those didn't happen …
Anyway most premium services not going to the CBD go to CBP (mainly 72x/74x series, based on landtransportguru.com sources). It could make sense to introduce 118e, or a HG-SKG-TamN-CBP service (quasi-27) as well.

CBP has been ignored by LTA for a very long time (until the arrival of svcs 20, 47, 118), which has allowed private bus operators to build up ridership on their premium buses. Given how demand to CBP pretty much only exists during peak hours, I don't foresee LTA bothering to introduce anything like 118e (though I may wish!). Amending other services may be feasible though ...
Premium bus services to Buona Vista/NUS/Science Park may well be better served by the Beeline model instead ...

Hi mr orange28, 118 route is too short for an express service. Normally an express service lasts about 60 min from one end to another. 118 is principally short in nature. Whole route is only 50 mins. It is only because bus captains drive too slowly at peak hours which seem to make journey 1 hr++. Cheers. Thanks.
Although 118 main loadings is during peak hours but remember,ITE,Changi Hospital and those working at Ikea/Giant also use this svc.One of cashcow service operated by GA.

I agree that in absolute terms 118 may be a short route, though you must realize that if you go direct from TPE/Punggol Rd stop to CBP then you shave a significant portion of travelling time (from 50+ mins to 15+ mins). And if say, >50% of passengers on the bus at the TPE stop are travelling to CBP then it may be worth it to run select buses as express to CBP.
As I said, I don't think LTA would bother with such an express service because it involves setting aside buses that run only during peak hours (which explains the City Direct model of private operators running their own buses instead of LTA's own buses via PTOs). Cheers and hope you understand my perspective as laid above.

You can take 593/744 for faster journey.
I would (and so would many others) ... if they (1) operate throughout the day (2) offer transfer rebates! Cheers
