This thread is to discuss Changi Airport bus infrastructure and services.
Current routes serving Changi Airport are:
24: Ang Mo Kio Interchange
27: Hougang Central Interchange
34: Punggol Interchange
36: Tomlinson Road (loop)
53: Bishan Interchange
858: Woodlands Regional Interchange
* All of the above routes have very high loading and are extremely winding and long, prone to delays
With Changi Terminal 4 coming up, LTA really needs to figure out how it wants to manage the Changi Airport bus infrastructure and restructure some of the bus routes.
Thoughts?
first a proper bus air-con terminal and link it to mrt or lrt. What LTA should do is to remove most of the bus service to changi air-port. and introduce new express bus service from orchard to changi air-port. in short bring back 390. and service 36 is not enough.
390 connect more direct from city area to changi ariport. also extend 506 back to changi airport. We cannot always take MRT forever as MRT breakdown often and often too Crowded.
and also have express service for airport workers

Actually what's the demand on 24 between Serangoon / Upp Paya Lebar and Sims Ave (East), or to Changi Airport?
If it's not particularly significant I would suggest cutting 24 after Paya Lebar (probably letting it cross over to PIE / Toa Payoh or something), and the rest can be mostly taken care of by 22, 28 and 53, or CCL/EWL. Alternatively can truncate 24 to Bidadari when it opens.

Agree that there should be a proper terminal. Unlikely that there will be one at T4, hopefully there will at T5. If it can't support DD, at least has to support bendys.
36 is indeed quite terrible and really ought to have a terminating point. Should also have some sort of Marine Parade - CBD (Orchard or otherwise) semi-express service that runs with DDs to relieve its load.
390 ... perhaps, but fixing 36 is the priority.
506 should not be extended, for both fleet and frequency reasons.
I do agree that buses serving the airport r of high cap and i do see how operators r like trying to keep up without the use of DDs due to the height limit at basements. Idk how 858 is managing wif the bendies but i feel with a proper terminal, DDs for the rest of the services are a MUST.
I take 858 quite frequently and i MUST agree that it WINDS TOO MUCH. I know a few ppl who would rather travel frm woodlands to yishun/khatib to transfer to 858 or take 168 and then transfer to 858 jalan kayu/punggol bus stop which is faster even though the need to transfer. Nonetheless, 858 do provide direct airport connection for semb and chong pang ppl so i doubt it will be ideal to split at yishun.
Pertaining to service 36, i do see the need of expr service to the city which is faster and more direct. However, how many ppl would even use it? If let say the entire marine parade sector is deleted, idk how many ppl would use it. I know a minority of ppl use airport to transit to buses like 36 to marine parade which show its importance even though it is oso winding.

SBS Service 146: Upper East Coast - Tomlinson Road (Loop) via MBS.
SBS Service 36 can remain as it is, Changi Airport - Bukit Merah.

Add 2 more new bus routes to Changi Airport Terminal 4, or divert DD-friendly routes to Changi Airport Terminal 4.
Current system allows for picking up passengers at various stops from north, east, northeast to the airport. Not in favour of picking up huge numbers of people at designated stops and bring them to airport all at once. To each, his own opinion. Cheers. Thanks.
Services such as 24, 27 and 858 should be split as they are too winding and have long looping points that causes these services to be totally unreliable on their return leg.
I really hope they can launch a MRT parallel service for 858 to Changi Airport that could go as follows.
508
Woodlands Interchange
Admiralty MRT
Sembawang MRT
Chong Pang (Yishun Ave 5)
Yishun MRT
Khatib MRT
Seletar Circus
Changi Airport
507
Sengkang Interchange
Punggol Road
TPE Punggol
Changi Airport
* 27 will be Tampines Interchange <> Changi Airport for Tampines residents with SDs
* 108 will be launched to serve HCI <> Tampines Interchange with DDs
* 858 will be Woodlands Regional Interchange <> Yishun Ring Road (loop) with DDs

There is little patronage becoz of the need to loop at MP, so eilminating that will attract more tourists, perhaps even some western side dwellers. Also, this needs to go along with appropriate publicity. Otherwise ppl just gonna turn to the MRT...

EDIT: On second thought this is a GREAT idea since 858 often suffers from immense overcrowding at TPE bus stop. Can make 507 stop there instead and let 858 fly TPE stop.
However I am against the idea of airport svcs charging Express prices since it is a necessity not a luxury. Dont think this idea will be well received by many, esp those currently taking 858...
I think 858 can stay as it is, and another new trunk (862?) Can serve the short trunk you've suggested.
SMRT Please reintroduce 989 back please from CCK - Changi Airport via Bukit Panjang if not CCK and Bukit Panjang resident will have a pain to get to Airport.

Can but when I had suggested to terminate to Punggol, didn't have 117 then. Now have 117 also at Punggol + 85 + there is 39/858/965/969 - so way too many services that cover Sengkang/Punggol from Yishun side.
Hence this time around just recommend 858 to loop around Khatib as there will be express service to Changi that will still offer interchange at Seletar Circus.
Let's introduced a service from Western area to Changi Airport

They can adjust fares and don't need to call it 507. Can call it any random number like 862 just like 190/972/161/168 also offers service via expressway.
858 staying as it is does not resolve the issue of such a long looping point, constant delays and severe bunching. 858 causes today more inconvenience and discontent among passengers because people have to stand all the way from Yishun to airport and many times from CGA don't get to baord because there are at least 30 pax out of 70 capacity bus that alight at Punggol TPE stop (who used to previously take the longer alternative of 27/34 before TPE Punggol happened).

Your route suggestion is for 2022 when Tengah first flat will be built?
Service 36 is definitely the most in need of driverless buses.

Sorry what I meant was the nature of 858 baic express svc) be kept, routing wise I second your suggestion and for a new short trunk to be intro (that is not 858)
And yes I have also agreed that 858 should fly Punggol Rd, with the intro of 507. But 507 shld not be charging Express fares.
