I wonder if it would be feasible for the night buses to operate routes largely parallel to the existing MRT network (like modified bus bridging services) so that when the MRT system is closed for the night, the buses can take over to enable people to continue travelling across Singapore. As of now the night buses go from city to HDB towns in a one-way fashion, but I think two-way (and less winding!) services could be useful to more people ...
Don't forget taxi bookings through calls may soon be the thing of the past. With the rise of Uber, GrabTaxi and ComfortDelGro booking apps, I don't think they will have a trend of having night buses.

true actually... nowadays got grabcar for example, sometimes cheaper than taxi. if passengers do not want to wait another 30mins if they miss the bus, i'm sure they will grabcar instead
If you want night buses, the only simple ones worthwhile at more frequent intervals are:
Changi Airport (All Terminals - Terminal 1/2/3/4/5 and Project Jewel) to CBD
Jurong East High-Speed Rail Terminus to CBD
333, 334 & 335 is allowed to run 24-hours for a start should the High-Speed Rail opens, at 1 bus interval.
Adding on, the government is building infrastructures to cater to the 'service-standard' economy. Don't forget Tuas will also have a megaport too. Southern Waterfront City will replace the Tanjong Pagar, Brani and Keppel Terminals from 2017.

- Yishun Ave 9
- Yishun Ave 2
- Canberra Way
- Canberra St
- Sembawang Rd
- Montreal Link / Dr / Wellington Circle
- Canberra Rd
- Admiralty Link

I would suggest to skip Yishun Ring Rd entirely since it's already covered by NR1. Might as well follow svc 859's route to Sembawang:

I think that once autonomous vehicles are commonplace, then night buses as we know it today will probably be replaced by a mixture of autonomous buses that cover the existing MRT routes (to provide a skeletal 24 hr public transportation) and AVs from Uber and co. to cover everything else ...

Huh?those 4-6 seater bus as Night bus?I don't think so,LTA will evaluate new Operators for now to see if they can handle night bus also..In future Im not suprised if GA get NR7 and TT get NR5 or 8,While the new Seletar winner get 1N.

I hope in the future the night bus system will be revamped so no more separate 1N/2N/etc and NR1/NR2/etc series but instead be standardized (same number series?), and then the same area will generally not be covered by more than one night bus route, also at that point LTA should distribute evenly the night bus routes to each bus package. Right now looking at the NR routes for the SMRT bus packages also don't make much sense. NR5 to Jurong West, NR7 to Pasir Ris but both under Woodlands package?

I agree, or maybe can even go up to woodlands, covering sectors not covered by NR2!

Yes i dont think LTA would wanna have such mini buses for night bus. Might as well use cab.

I agree, and also the standarisation of the fares, to ensure pax can transfer between buses without having to pay more. Currently changing between a SMRT and SBS night bus would cost $8.90 fot adults which is way too much, even though it is much cheaper as compared to cabs or GrabCar etc.
The main problem with night buses, as i have mentioned, is that not a lot of people know about it. Pax would generally know about the routes if they were to run everyday, or run in daylight. On the other hand, night buses only run on weekend, and is deep into the night, so very little people would know it even exist. This reminds me of the incident when i took CT28 last year. I exchanged a few words with the BC and he mentioned that becoz it only runs on CNY period, not a lot of people will know where it goes, and hence ridership is low. (Side note: i asked him whether CT28 will be withdrawn, he said no, but look at this year haha...)
Another thing that i think is hard to sustain night buses is that BCs have to be paid more for running on schedules that is in the after hours and also on weekends, so the pay should be higher right? idk abt this, but maybe you guys can clarify this?
Anyways, in this case, do you think night buses will finally be withdrawn due to rise of cabs and Grabcar/Uber industries? I think so too, what about u guys?
Either reduce the fare to $3.20-3.60 or make the route more direct instead of so many windings..

This will reduce duplication and faster journey from CBD to Pasir Panjang/Queenstown areas.
Pls comment.
For 100 nope, I still believe there's still catchment at Vivo to ply to Beach Road/aljunied and to Commonwealth MRT faster than 145.
Proposed extension to service 228 to Kaki Bukit Industrial Estate.
(Amended from discussion here.)
An alternative would be to amend 18 for the Bedok North segment and let 228 take 18's shorter current route along BN Ave 2. Most existing links are already covered by 60, 66 and 87.
Originally posted by iveco:Also, some say Route 178 may be affected bu DTL2. It may make sense to merge it with Route 172. Old Jurong Road section can be covered by Route 176, as Hillview already has Routes 963 & 970.
176 cannot. Many people use it as a feeder from Hillview to Bukit Batok MRT.
Unless you make 177 a full-day service.
How about extending 403 to start from Changi Village?

Yes a revamp! But ur justification for some services to start frm shenton way? IMO shenton way area vry quiet at the middle of the night, and oso some routes like 70, 162 and 700 do not ply the area coz maybe low loading during the aft hours so no need so much, so i guess 1 or 2 services thru shenton way area shld be enuf?

Hi mr CZT, I think for night owl services, they must start from Marina bay sands to various towns. Guaranteed to be profitable! Cheers. Thanks.
Marina Bay Sands crowded with taxis and private buses. There are peoples working at various nightclubs,Discotheques and Pubs around Shenton Way/Tg Pagar.
All Night route should start from 0035 and last bus is 0315.

That's why I actually think 70, 107, 162 and 700 should still terminate at Shenton Way at night/on weekends but ply MBS and Suntec like 97.

I think 10 & 167 can deviate via MBS during weekends as Robinson Rd/Shenton Way already has 196 as an alternative to these 2 routes.
