Contracts in China
LTA wanted to buy new trains. They went to China to source mistaking they are cheaper there. They found one & asked the manufacturer, 'What happens if the trains are faulty?'
The manufacturer quietly pointed to the only English sign board in the factory that reads:
"GUARANTEE NO SPOIL"
Feeling assured, they bought the trains. Now the trains give problems. LTA quickly asked for a refund or an exchange.
When the manufacturer refused to give either, LTA pointed to the sign board assuring a guarantee.
The manufacturer replied philosophically, "Brother, you are in China. And for 5,000 years, we read from right to left."

It may end up too long and unfeasible, as the route is only used on weekdays.
If the route doesn't actually need the interchange, then simply looping around CCK MRT would be sufficient. Or even better, change the route to loop at Yew Tee MRT instead.
In time to come, there should be a new route doing Bt Panjang -- Yew Tee MRT -- Sungei Kadut (loop).

Blame NEL rationalisation lo, their hardcore way of cutting up some bus services resulted in affected commuters switching to cramp in the NEL as a result.

Hi mr sbs7557R, not much use I supposed. For the smrt190 incident, there is actually enough space for the affected lady to get on to the bus by the 4th or 5th trip. She just refuses to do so as she wants to video the incident and show to all that she will count until the 13th bus that she is able to get on comfortably without any issue. Of course this goes to show that smrt 190 is overworked to a certain extent and she uses it to support her views. To cut it short, she was at the right place at the right time.
NEL rationalisation was a different point of view. Moreover when it was done at that time, it may feel very harsh. However, time has passed and some of the routes did duplicate to a very huge extent. Some may have even duplicated the circle line MRT currently and it was good that they cut it years ago. If not, the effect will have been even greatly felt have they chosen to rationalize routes like 97, 106, 111 at the opening of circle line. Then so many duplication of resources and bus fares may have to been doubled to recover all these. Cheers. Thanks.

Duplication occurs when there is no marginal benefit fron taking the bus over the train... This is not only in terms of the destination, but the ROUTE and, more importantly, the TIME TAKEN...
If we continue to have the axed routes as they are obviously your "time has passed" argument still works... But the ROOT problem is LTA's stubborn reluctance to modify and speed up the bus routes... I tell u, if the buses were modified to ply express NE residents will use it as a viable alternative to MRT... In fact I guarantee most of those not staying near MRT will use it in place of MRT altogether...
And dont even bloody ask why 501/502 was axed...

No intention to spoil your fun, but having a rather long and winding route, plus almost no direct connections to any of the other MRT stations other than Boon Lay, would make this service unpopular. Other non-MRT services such as 99 and 185 are direct and well-established, so they have demand. Yours may have a hard time finding passengers.
Well, the following amendments could be made to my proposed route 245:
1. Skip Jurong West Avenue 1 and Jurong West Street 51. Instead, ply Corporation Road and Boon Lay Way to call at Lakeside MRT Station.
2. Loop via Corporation Road to serve more areas of Taman Jurong.
3. Merge the route into existing bus route 258, which currently uses 6 double decker buses, so that less additional buses is required and more direct bus connections can be provided.
If we merge it with bus route 258, I would recommend that the route skips Jurong West Street 64 entirely, since it would call at Lakeside MRT Station.
The merged route would be as such:
This alternative would increase the demand for existing route 258, as well as for my proposed route.
Given the estimated travel time of 101.52 minutes, the merged bus service 258 would require 11 buses to maintain the same frequency of 10 to 14 minutes. Since the existing bus service 258 already has 6 buses, it would need another 5 more buses. (better than having a separate new route 245, which would require 7 buses.)
Considering that the merged route would be longer, the operating hours should be adjusted to 5:04 am to 12:45 am, where the first trips start at Yung Ho Road from 5:04 am and the last trips depart Joo Koon Bus Interchange by 11:54 pm.
Based on my observations, 7 Single-Decker buses (83 pax) and 4 Double-Decker buses (133 pax) should be enough.
During peak periods, when all 11 buses are used, I expect around 100 passengers per Double-Decker and around 63 passengers per Single-Decker (Total: 841 pax per 101.52 mins; 497 pax per peak hour).
During regular hours, when only 8 buses are used, I expect around 40 passengers on every bus (Total: 320 pax per 101.52 mins; 190 pax per regular hour).
The number of passengers should be around 5,028 per working day and around 3,800 per weekend; 32,740 pax per week; 1,702,480 pax per year.
Assuming only concession fares (around 60 cents) are collected during peak hours and only adult fares (around 131 cents) are collected during non-peak hours, I expect the merged bus service 258 to collect around $4,579 of fare revenue per working day, and around $4,978 of fare revenue per weekend; $32,851 fare revenue of per week; $1,708,252 of fare revenue per year.
Although less than what an average bus service in Singapore collects (around $2,056,000 of fare revenue per year), more revenue could be collected as new developments are completed along the route, and the merged bus service 258 would eventually be on par with the average. :)
So, extending bus route 258 to Taman Jurong may be a better option.

Just for the sake of interest, which would you choose if you had the power of decision -- 62e, 80e, 107e, or an express extension of 119?

You probably don't know the situation in Jurong West, since you do not live here.
The primary function of this route to connect to secondary schools and JJC, for areas that currently do not have direct bus connections.
The secondary function is to provide direct bus connection to Jurong Lake from Jurong West Extension.
The tertiary function is to connect Jurong West residents to the new mosque at Jurong West Avenue 2.
Demand should be around medium throughout the day, across the week.
Based on my experience on bus services like 185 and 187, single decker buses should be adequate.
During peak periods, considering it provides connection to schools, I expect the bus to be around 3/4 occupied.
During regular hours, considering it provides connection to Hong Kah Point, Gek Poh Shopping Centre, Pioneer Mall, and other amenities, I expect the bus to be at least 1/4 occupied.
The loading on this bus service should be better than 91 in Buona Vista, and about the same as 386 in Punggol.
The route was created with reference to the URA masterplan 2003, where I used only the main roads to optimise the service.
It will be well-received. :)
Hi mr gekpohboy, sbs 386 is full load with some standees during peak hours. I witnessed many times. Crowds throng to edgefield plains end. Cheers. Thanks.

any that plies a decent amount of express.

Hi mr sbs6853S, last time you say the status for sbs 76 is pending appeal and you have spoken to MPs. So how is it going on now? Any updates? Cheers. Thanks.

Hi mr sbs6853S, noted and thanks.
137 (Sims Place <> Bedok Reservoir Rd - LOOP)
Sims Pl > Sims Dr > Aljunied Rd (Aljunied MRT) > Sims Av > Paya Lebar Rd (Paya Lebar MRT/Mcpherson MRT) > Ubi Av 3 > Kaki Bukit Av 2 > Kaki Bukit Rd 3 > Kaki Bukit Av 1 (Kaki Bukit MRT) > Bedok Reservoir Rd > Jln Damai > Kaki Bukit Av 1 (Kaki Bukit MRT) > RETURN
Total route length: 18km
Suggested fleet deployment: 7-8 buses (4 DDs/3 SDs + 1 split shift SD)
1. Two-way connection between Sims Pl/Sims Dr and Aljunied MRT.
2. New connection between Paya Lebar MRT/Paya Leber Rd and Geylang Rd (old 864)
3. Provides more bus service to Ubi Av 3 & Kaki Bukit Industrial Estate with neighbouring housing estates and MRT stations.
152 (Bedok <> Siglap Link - LOOP) - REMOVAL OF 222P
Bedok North Av 1 (Bedok MRT) > Chai Chee St > Chai Chee Dr > Siglap Rd > Siglap Link > Marine Parade Rd (Siglap MRT) > RETURN
Total route length: 8.4 km
Suggested fleet deployment: 4 SDs
1. Enhances connectivity for Chai Chee/Siglap with a new connection to Marine Parade Rd.
2. Connect the future TEL at Siglap to Siglap Rd and Chai Chee.
Drawback: Duplicates 222 and 26 from Bedok Interchange. Might be better if this service did CBP > Tanah Merah MRT > Bedok North Av 3 > Bedok North Rd > Route above to Siglap Link.
401 Amended (Geylang Lor 1 <> New Upp Changi Rd - LOOP)
Geylang Lor 1 > Sims Av > Mountbatten Rd > Fort Rd > East Coast Park Svc Rd > ECP > Bedok South Av 1 > New Upp Changi Rd > Bedok South Rd > East Coast Park Svc Rd > Still Rd South > Marine Parade Rd > Tanjong Katong Rd > Dunman Rd > Old Airport Rd > Mountbatten Rd > Geylang Rd > Geylang Lor 1.

True... Can... Given that there is 102 to cover missing link to Jalan Kayu and Seletar Circus.
85 can ply Sengkang West Road and provide direct bus service to the many worker dorms and Seletar Flats there. Will also help improve some loading on 85.
I was thinking that svc 150 can skipped Marine Terrace and loop at Tomlinson Rd instead while 36 can cut short looping at Marine Parade Rd back to Airport.
