117 should have been amended to Canberra estate. That was a mistake on LTA's part.
then LTA should have converted 117 to full SD/minority DD by now mah

Then why everytime I heard Punggol residents want faster route to Seletar?They know in future Punggol Way can direct go to Seletar..

Probably only partially feasible if it is made an express service. Can reduce duplication with 174 and 963 (I'll presume the route between C'wealth Ave West and Lower Delta Rd is express on AYE after Clementi). If serving BB, best to serve upcoming BB west; central and south already have 174e/506.
Tampines East MRT rationalisation/amendments, draft 3.
============================
A. Service 291 (East):
B1. Service 39:
B2. Service 293 (East):
C. Service 18:
============================
Here are my proposed changes to rationalise services for Tampines East MRT with (hopefully) the least number of major changes involved, with either three minor reroutes (A, B1, B2) or one minor and one major (A, C). NO NEW SERVICES are needed.
This also does not take into account rationalisation along other stations involving cutting/rerouting of routes.
The HDBs along St 42 are generally within walking distance to Tampines East MRT, so it's mainly those in the path of service 28 that needs coverage. 28 should not be unnecessarily modified. 291 has to be the bridging service to St 32/33, for introducing / diverting a service would be troublesome; this would call for a new service at St 23, which is provided by either 39 (B1) or 18 (C).
A last possibility is to extend 46 to loop near Ave 7/9, but that's quite remote and there may be other things LTA intend to do with 46.

A. Service 291 (East):
- After Tampines St 21, reroute to St 24, Ave 7 (MRT), Ave 2. Skips St 23.
- Alternatively, via St 24, Ave 7 (MRT), St 34, St 33, St 32, and back via St 34.
- Provides MRT connection for St 21 and St 32/33 residents.
- Note that St 24 / Ave 7 junction is right-turn friendly.
B1. Service 39:
- From Tampines: After Tampines Ave 2 (East CC), divert into St 23, St 24, Ave 7 (MRT).
- Retains link between Tampines Int and St 23 (albeit longer), and provides MRT connection for St 23 residents.
B2. Service 293 (East):
- Re-loop via Tampines Ave 7, Ave 9, St 42/43, Ave 9, St 45, Ave 7.
- Provides MRT connection for Tampines St 42-45 residents.
- (BUT) Lost link to St 41, Tampines North CC and a few schools (East View Sec, Tamp Nth Pri).
C. Service 18:
- From Bedok: After Tampines Ave 2 (East CC), reroute into St 23, St 24, Ave 7 (MRT), St 45, Ave 9, Ave 12, Pasir Ris Dr 8, Dr 3, Pasir Ris Int.
- Provides connections to both Tampines East and Pasir Ris MRT stations, plus Tampines East CC, for Tampines St 42-45 residents, as an alternative to changes B1 & B2.
- Alternatively, may continue after Tampines Ave 9 towards Tampines North Int.
- (BUT) Lost direct connection to Bedok from Tampines Ave 7, which can be mitigated with a quick transfer via 21 --> 168.

I hope you do realize that DTL3 stops at Tampines Central as well where all these services will still provide MRT connection to residents. Diverting the routes as you have suggested will highly inconvenience people going to EWL which will still be the to-go MRT option as it is fastest to city area.
Moreover from places like Tampines Ave 2, they have multiple services taking them to Tampines West DTL3 stop along SAFRA.

Hmmm okay, but would it not bring convenience to those staying near the far areas such as St 33 and St 45? It's decently far to Tampines Central (let alone Tampines West MRT), and that place is quite crowded. Bringing residents to Tampines East MRT would be much faster. It's still their choice if they want to continue the trip to Central.
Proposed 291 change skips one pair of bus stops at St 23, which is the only link that needs bridging.
Bus stops that lose 18 have loads of alternative services to Tampines Central along both Ave 7 and Ave 2. The only significant missing link is between Ave 7 and Bedok.
The bus stops along St 32 (76411/76419, after & opp Ngee Ann Sec) are far enough from Tampines East MRT to make walking unfeasible. There is no sheltered walkway either.
Extended service 883:
With this effective merger, 805 will be withdrawn. This helps to relieve load at Yishun Temporary Int and Yishun MRT bus stops, saves time (for parking at Yishun) and resources.

I don't think you should touch 291.
My proposal is extension of sv 46 which today is "quite useless" and can be made more useful with DTL3 opening.
UEC <> Tampines St 45 (loop)
UEC -- existing route -- Tampines Ave 5 -- Tampines Ave 4 -- Tampines Ave 7 (DTL3) -- Tampines St 32 -- Tampines St 34 -- Tampines St 45 -- Tampines Ave 9 -- Tampines Ave 7 (DTL3) & back.
* This way sv 46 can provide direct connection to DTL3 MRT for residents along st 32, 34, 45.
* This modification will also provide faster intra-town service between Tampines west and east towns as 291/293 spend a lot of time in the interchange. People will save at least 10 mins to go from opposite sides of town.

Good route46 no need to terminate at Tampines,Very useless of for 4-8 mins only.

With this effective merger, 805 will be withdrawn. This helps to relieve load at Yishun Temporary Int and Yishun MRT bus stops, saves time (for parking at Yishun) and resources.
Assumptions:
- (1) After Canberra & Yishun Ave 1 estates fully open, 805 and 883 will operate at approximately the same frequency with approximately the same demand;
- (2) Few passengers board at Yishun Int;
- (3) The merger will be carried out after BSEP has met its quota of 80 introduced services.

Wish that had happened too, but alas, LTA insisted on 883.
So too bad ...

883 is required but launched way too early. This service should have been launched in Q3 2017 one year later. For now, 117 should have been diverted to cover for 883.
Even 382G/W was launched way too early. Even today got only 8-10 pax per bus. So many wasted resources. Would have been better to have 117 cover Matilda section when launched to save resources as well.
These are decisions that would be taken if you have some constraint on resources but with LTA's quotas to invest, they don't care.
But beware it's going to come to bite us with fare increases very soon.

Hi mr busanalyser, surely you don't expect 117 to cover 382 and also 883 route? 382 is not launched early. Safra Punggol is already up and 1 bus service definitely needs to go in sentul crescent. Moreover, 117 is a trunk service. Cannot really expect 117 to be diverted into all the smaller roads. For services having low loading do not mean that they do not need to be served with a link. Moreover, it also does not mean that without these bus services, there will not be fare increases.
Service 382W/G was introduced on 3 Jan 2016. Just 1 day ahead of the opening of new school Punggol cove primary school. It was not introduced way ahead. There are totally no buses at this part of the area. LTA also liaised with other govt institution for launch of bus services for the benefit of most residents. Cheers. Thanks.

Hi mr vampire77lim, what is so special about eunos? It is not as though that eunos is badly connected? Eunos in my opinion is quite well balanced in terms of public transport. There are many bus services around eunos and even more further down at east coast/ marine parade side. Cheers. Thanks.
