Bus contracting model: Improvements cannot be sustained without raising fares, said Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
The Government bus contracting model will raise service standards but these improvements cannot be sustained without raising fares, said Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
But if fares were to rise, the Public Transport Council (PTC) will ensure that the fares remain affordable, he said.
His comments, given to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao in an e-mail interview, were reported yesterday. The bus contracting model takes effect on Thursday.
Under the model, the Government will own all operating assets, which are leased out to bus operators. Operators will be paid by the Land Transport Authority for providing bus services and fare revenue will be collected by the Government.

Haizz. Tot TT will not have bunching issue but accordingly to latest report from LTA, there are still 4 services which bunching issue is worst than SBST/smrt time.
For the past week, sv143 are having issue as well. Saw twice at around 9am where by 3 DDS arriving at TPY int at same time while the next bus is 25 mins away. Same go evening peak as well. 2-3 DD tend to arrive together at TPY. While the later bus is 20-30 mins away.(and also have 25-30 mins headway in part of the route). Alway saw TPY have 4-5 sv143 buses during peak hours. Added too many buses?

Xu Wen Yuan: cannot only raise bus service standard and not raise the fares.
These people will forever have tons of excuses to back up their nonsense and greed.
The never ending cycle of sucking and throwing money into the bottomless pit.
Bus lobbyists, you asked, you got what you wanted for GCM/BCM.
The bus livery is already going the way of Melbourne, and I am sure you are all very excited about it.
The next thing Singapore is going in Melbourne's direction is their $3.90 bus fare.
So bus lobbyists, what are you gonna do next? Where is your excitement?

Hi mr sgbuses, the new generation of bus lobbyists will be here to stay with. They are much more into other aspects of bus issues and technologies. They know that bus fares will only go upwards irregardless of whether there is GCM/BCM or not. We all know every other thing for prices in Singapore is increasing. So they are at least less susceptible to let this break their interests in bus lobbying. Cheers. Thanks.

It is not a question of if, but a question of magnitude.
The more fanciful stuff you want, the steeper is the hike.

Hi mr sgbuses, I doubt the new generations of bus lobbyists will even bother about any hike. Cheers. Thanks.

but not many people taking 143. MRT always many people. unless LTA include semi-express service of 143. then the resouce will be full use. given now MRT also like bus contracting model. i see reason why service like 143 cannot be semi express to jurong east. can skip some bus stop where less people taking the bus.

It already exists. It's called Express 506.

You want 143e?TT already got problem deploy AP shift BCs to do 97e since they cut so many S shift duties.
it not 506. 506 not even match the 143 route. it matches 157 and 67 and 66 and those service going to east. 143 is just 143. if LTA can have 143E should be better. if drivers going to be a problem than it TT problems. unless NTUC can help out the employment for all bus operators.

So where is your proposed 143E going to serve and skip? All of 143's major stops are major choke points and the reason why massive bunching occurs. The quieter sectors of 143 are the drivers' only opportunity where buses are able to make up time.
It is only a matter of time before TT approaches LTA to suggest 143 be broken up into two, either at New Bridge Ter or HabourFront as the meeting point.
