My Uncle driving for SBST for nearly 30 years never encountered salary reduce except for MVC leh,Which part of the salary is reduced?Less OT,allowances yes but lowered down basic pay dont have leh
With the pay revision $1950/$3000 sign up bonus for sbs transit, benefits/career improvements for bus captain, is it worth to be a bus captain now?
Sbs is having bus captain roadshows rotating at different interchange for whole july. I intend to visit next week to know more. But can someone kindly help answer some questions here so i can think first.
What is the working hours per day?
Is OT compulsory or voluntarily?
Any breaks in between? Driving non stop can be very tiring and dangerous.
The new operators GA/TT remove the need for BC to do refuelling, cleaning and parking. How is SBS reacting to this? Any changes also?

Got a feeling that SMRT will increase their BC salary by bit..Dont expect $1950..Maybe $1900-1930 range.

SMRT BCs are probably going to quit and join SBST. At least they have 1 common bus model.
Eventually they will either jump ship if SMRT lose Yishun.

working hours between 8-11.5 hours (AM: 0500(earliest) - 1600(latest), PM: 1330 (earliest) - 0130 (latest), S: 0500 (earliest) - 2100 (latest) with 4-6 hours break in between, E: 0500 (earliest) - 2000 (latest) with 4 hour break in between, T: 0800 - 1700)
avg 10 min breaks between trips
OT depends on the slot you receive, but remember more OT more $ cos u earn more during OT 🤑
SBST requires refuelling and parking for BCs, but timing is included in your timetable for that (iirc)

SBST and TT for now cutting more OTs already.That $1930-1950 is just an attraction for local to join bus companies.My TT BC friends already complain he earned lesser than what he get in SBST Soon Lee and SMRT Kranji..Everyday work 8-8.5 hours only.Go Ahead might follow this concept too employing more spare BCs.
To answer Cetra question about shift patterns
Am-Pm(SMRT) and A/P(SBST) earliest start shift is around 0455-0625 the latest for Am and between 1300-1635 for Pm shift work.OT depend on shift pattern,Some start as early as 0455 and ends at 1530 and you calculate how many Ot hours while some start at 0600 but end at 1350 which is less than 8 hours.Pm start as early as 1300 or start late at 1635 ends at 2250 the earliest or up to 0200 the latest.
Split Shift or S1 and S for SMRT and SBST respectively:Examples 0545-0945 break then start at 1645-2025 or start at 0645-1035 break then start at 1705-2055..Break in between is from 4-6 hours usually.
Equilavent or S2 for SMRT and E for SBST,Same as above but with less break time in between.Examples 0550-0950 then start at 1400-1935 or 0645-1115 break then 1525-1925.
Three Quarter:TQ and T for SMRT and SBST respectively..Most found during holidays and weekends though there is a few implemented during weekdays.Start from 0715/0945 and ends at 1750/2025..Usually 9-14 hours of work,Lots of OTs and the break times also quite good..Additional got tea break times also.
Also got crossover schedules where you will drive service 67 from 0535-0735 then change to svc 969 from 0750-0945 before changing back to svc 67.For S shift after they crossover to other svc they will off service to depot.
Also got off schedule shift OS where standby BCs which didnt have any job call,Starters will instruct them to drive bus to supplement certain service depending on demands.Usually will drive a few hours only before off service back to depot.

I believe got some bus start at 0430h. For svc 10,154 and 119 that starts at 0500h at Tampines and Eunos respectively. Not only that, when i was serving NS, i saw some SBST buses and SMRT buses leaving depot at 0430h suspect to cater to 1st bus timing that are far from their depot i.e 13,39,70,120-122, WLDEP 961 that start at GL1, WLDEP 167 that start at Bukit Merah are some fine example. There are some buses that end at 0230h according to some timesheet that i personally saw ah.

as a beginner, you will be given AM/PM shift only. Most likely will be able to stay at AM/PM shift upon request
OT depends on the slot you are given, but if you don't want OT, i think its possible to request for swap to non OT slot from the Operations Control.

You can choose SBST Amdep or SMRT Amdep.
SBST AMDEP:Ang Mo Kio Int,Bishan Int,YCK Ter,New Bridge Rd Ter for svc 121,121 & 123 and Woodlands Int for svc 168.
For SMRT AMDEP:Yishun Int except svc 856.Sembawang Int for 167,882 & 981.
Lorong 1 Ter for 961,980 & 985.Tampines Int for 67,Eunos Int for svc 61.

Ang Mo Kio and YCK Int is in Seletar package.
Mods, please rename this thread to 'Starting pay of bus operators'. It's not just SBST, but all the bus operators which have to keep raising their staff's salary.
