While at 13m, the concept buses have higher capacity, taking up lesser spaces and addresses the issue of longer dwell times with a second staircase and a third door. These improvements, as intended by LTA, has addressed the problems of longer dwell times for double deckers.
If furthertechnological advances in future can make engine and air con compressors smaller, they can stored under the staircases and make the buses even shorter.
u sure it have more capacity? when the additional length are taken up by the extra stairs and doors? maybe a few seats more upstair?
but did anyone realise the cost of these buses with all these additional features?
S$430 000 for a normal A95..... versus S$600 000 for a so call concept bus with 3 doors /dual staircase/charger ports/foldable seats etc...
actual cost might be slightly lower than S$600 000 though, but it will be 15-20% more expensive... i think it will be better to get 5 normal A95 instead of 4 "concept" A95...

I thought LTA says that the A95 cost more than the E500?Its $495k for E500 and $601k for the A95?

Thats for the concept bus project/tender. It is of no indication of the actual cost of the bus, as costs such as R&D, design and other one time costs will be included.
I have no idea about the actual price of a regular bus, maybe lemon1974 will know which double deck is cheaper in terms of regular production batches?

I'm still really sore about the Jewel... Now where else are they gonna find such a perfectly centralised area for a DD-friendly bus int?
T5 will have one, but I don't feel its exactly 'centralized', disappointing. I agree that they could have really done some sort of centralized bus terminal with Jewel, also taking into account the fact that it is also a skytrain hub.
Of course, if LTA can commit to a huge amount the cost per bus will be lower. There's no point in selecting a concept bus and not sticking to purchasing it.
Like that buy both model better,A95 can fit with normal front doors.Settled.

Yes big difference, but they never say they aren't getting. Until the current bendy(A24) are put on sales, there is still chances for bendy buses purchase, BUT at lower amount.

SMRT ordered 39 A24s now, but there could be more in the future. If they already given up on the bendy buses order, there would already be more DDs order liao. But why there isn't even a DD order? Obvious reason would be lack of space.
I'm sure it's just to early to make conclusion about bendy buses order.
And the new A95s are meant to be for LTA, temporary SMRT, not SMRT only.

I did ask several SMRT personnels regarding new bendy buses whether its from their own purchase or LTA funded..LTA wont funded SMRT with bendy buses but SMRT can only purchased at lower amount.Examples 2 O405Gs scrapped replace with a A24,But again SMRT reluctant to purchase further and just wait and see what the concept buses has to offer.Right now bus purchasing is under LTA already,You see how many O405Gs is refurbish till LTA purchased the concept buses..And everything is almost uncertain with the GCM.
Anyway, there shouldn't be a thinking of "lack of space" IMO...
If the aviation industry could expand, I'm sure the public transport could do so. There's definitely space reserved for public transport system. Whats more? A country could never move smoothly without a good public transport system.
Limiting the space allocated for public transport system simply says the level of attention given.

Well,LTA is the big boss now.

I too like you hate to see no bendy buses in SG cause theyre reliable for feeder service but again with 1 body ruling system nothing can be done much..Just keep our finger crossed..At least buy them for feeders/Intratowns will be more than enough.
The only problem now I can say is that the company isn't proving the reliability of A24 well.
Anyway, a concept buses fitted with the most expensive system...rich or waste money
Such example is the bell. It was mentioned by others that the bell was quite expensive per unit.

Ask the lobbyists. It checks off every feature on their bucket list. I guess they don't mind paying $3.90 minimum bus fare.
The Citaro had them before. And it didn't work out.

If they want drivers to leave their cars during working hours to take PT,I feel they ought to have features like this at least,Singapore already got one of the world expensive cities and things like this is normal..Even Rapid's E500 got TV and even GPS for the drivers.

it certainly hate bendies. fml
but i heard it started as a rumor after SBS sold the 2 bendies.

But do you think LTA would ensure the bus maintainance is always excellence? Come on la...day in and out already so busy..where got time to maintain all buses right? Cramp parking space, yet pay so much to buy something that isn't properly maintained...
All cut cost to maximise profit for sure. Otherwise ur MAN, Scania buses would all be made in original bodywork(if possible), not by a third party.
The most important and most needed system in the bus :

Thats why LTA introduced this GCM,To see which operators did their work or not and not just running bus service but maintenance is essential too.5 years down the road and you still thinking youre a household brand,LTA will kick you out and open new bidding..

But basically, it's not profitable to maintain a 2nd hand bus properly without even going through refurbing.

That is up to LTA to assess the cost,Bus operators now just run and maintain whatever LTA paid them accordingly. The game has changed bro...

Better than a creaky ADL bodywork that sound like its going to fall apart. But, end of the day its still cost cutting, as older ADL products were not such poorly designed.

"Sounds like its going to fall apart"
But Gemilang parts are already falling apart, compared to the ADL...The Newer A22s already have this situation.
