ADLs for 171 soon? There's quite a number of bendy appearing on 171 recently..
171? got a feeling its load will dwindle when DTL opens in bt panjang end of year
171 could be reduced to Yishun to Bukit Panjang.
as stated above

Yes 171 could just do Yishun and loop back via BPJ Ring road... alternately can be extended to Keat Hong...
Keat Hong area will need 1-2 more services apart from 983 and 172. My proposal is to extend sv 700 to CCK via Keat Hong. On the other hand, have 983 start at BPJ and loop @ CCK instead.
Is CCK interchange getting an extension like Tampines, Sengkang, Punggol?
Is the DD on 172 just a cameo... and maybe replacement for some bendy slot on that particular day.
I might think the 172 DD is just like the sole 187 DD with frequent DD cameo from other svc.
171 can start from Yishun-Bt Batok instead passingby Keat Hong but again look impossible.

Usually the demand and loading will be high when bukit panjang services use BKE and PIE to cross to Stevens, Orchard or CBD area (ie, 190, 700, 960, 966, 972)
To re-capture its load and revenue, would suggest 171 to follow the 966 route via Dairy Farm and enter into BKE and PIE to get to Orchard for a start
E50s on 171 is hard.
there are options for BPJ to City.
all the bus services have at least 1 E50s
4 of the examples given passes through Orchard
2 of these have majority DDs
Is there any low lying trees or objects along 171 route that make it hard to deploy enviros on 171?

171?????
No need the high capacity buses.
bus route can just rot with single decker buses after DTL2, for all I care it would become a bad bus service.

The slip road from Mandai Road up to Southbound BKE.
If trees there are seen to be trimmed then maybe DD's will appear on 171.
Not likely though unless SBS operates 171.
Even if DTL opens, there will be a need to bring commuters to the stations, would 171 be shortened?
70 had fleet additions after circle line open... so did 43...
Yeah 171 can be shortened Yishun to Bt Panjang or maybe extend to CCK. Most of the demand for this service currently is in these areas also. Nobody really takes 171 from Yishun to beyond Bt Panjang, in my observation because I take 171 from Yishun to Bt Panjang regularly. Bus mostly clears at Bt Panjang.
There are many other services like 67 and 170 that ply the DTL route so 171 will be pretty redundant. If LTA wanna cut routes, 171 will probably be first. 67 and 170 have more purpose to stay on.
Even if 171 remains as it is, the service dont need high capacity buses. SDs are sufficient.

70 had fleet additions because of the YCK-Serangoon sector not the CCL sector. Also 70 has heavy AM load from HDBs in Guillemard to Shenton Way.
43 again.. it is because there are 2 distinct high loading sectors... Marine Parade to Paya Lebar and NEX to Buangkok Green... so again not much duplication with CCL.
171 on other hand... is doing great with just SDs right now... after DTL opens.. given that there are many other bus alternatives as well... 171 will just be a good to have... but can be chopped to BPJ or diverted to Bukit Batok or CCK.

I agree... 171 loading mainly is between BPJ and Yishun towns.. There are quite few other alternatives - not just 67 and 170 but also 961 that is parallel to a large extent. From BPJ area you have 700/972 that can cover the Scotts/Orchard/Shenton missing link also... if need be... though you don't have commuters taking to Shenton from BPJ... they use 700 instead from BPJ

970 they surely can experiment with few DDs... 75 I think is still okay... Bcoz you have 184 in parallel to Clementi road... where the major high sector load is... and Holland road has many other services.

mainly because they have quite poor frequency.. should try increase the freq first and shld be okay?
171 already good with SD thats why no need to have DDs. The frequent bendies might be temporarily. Should concentrate on yishun services to have dds like 851, 854 and 855. 860 can have a few too. And i hope 962 will have dds hehe

If it is only weekend... then it is fine... coz it will be for the Orchard road crowd for weekend.

970 DDs not possible because of Sixth Avenue...Anyway it's load is okay just that it has frequency issues.

970 is like 186... where the loading for 7.45-8.30am from River Valley to CBD is very high... and you can often see buses door to packed here..
Even 186 DDs are of no need apart from the Havelock road - CBD sector where stops like Ganges Ave, Hotel Miramar and River Place condo itself has around 30 pax boarding each.

Recount the history of 970, this TIBS service was introduced in the early 90s by Transitlink to replace a withdrawn SBS service 5 which then plied from Bt Panjang bus terminal to Geylang Lor 1. The route of SBS Service 5 from Bt Panjang to Alexandra via Sixth Ave is almost the same as 970 presently and back then Service 5 comprises predominantly of DD Merc 0305
