I do beg to differ in this case. Pauses of few minutes or more inside stations AND in between stations were actually very very prevalent back in the 2000's... just that social media wasn't as vocal... and feedback were successfully suppressed.
I stayed in Yishun and dropped off at City Hall Station for work back then. 60 minutes commute excluding walking and waiting-for-train time was actually very much the norm during morning peaks. You'd always worry when the train will move again because your boss will be yelling at you why you are late for work. That's why you have to leave home for work early... like 2 hours before start time of work to be safe.
Thats why I bought a car when i could finally afford it and never looked back since.
And fuck 851/857 as an alternative to the MRT back in the 2000's.
The "deep seated cultural issues" recently mentioned by some politicians and some army generals had hence in fact apparently been in existence since the 2000's. THE mass rapid transit system in Singapore. Getting you to work on time. THE fastest way to get you around Singapore yeah. My foot. Can smell my smelly feet after me getting cold sweat on my feet on the train imagining the lashing I would have gotten from my employer.
Route 23's plan to Jurong East / shortening to Temasek Poly or Bedok North Rd (MRT Station) is cancelled. I beg to differ this.
I doubt that there are other plans that indicates DTL Rationalisation.
972 is likely to be shortened to loop at Oxley Road, no longer a need to go Dhoby Ghaut MRT.
Service 23 may merge with service 106 (Bukit Batok - Orchard Road) portion to run from Bukit Batok to Tampines.

Instead of simply pushing everyone to MRT and adding more trains, possibly beyond the maximum capacity (especially for older lines), LTA should really think about introducing more parallel bus routes that serve as an alternative in reasonable time.
Unfortunately, given that svc 500 is still nowhere to be found, that doesn't seem to be the case.

It's not just an issue with the transportation system... a sea change in culture needs to mitigate the burden caused by overpopulation - for example, to facilitate and provide infrastructure for homeschooling, encourage / give incentives to employers to allow work-from-home where feasible etc. - i.e. to reduce the need for daily regular commute.
More parallel bus routes needed..Big towns like Tampines need at least a service each parallel with East West & Downtown line.

Tampines is actually doing quite well with 2 MRT lines and a number of full-day express services like 5, 23, 59, 127 and 518.
There are many towns with only 1 or no MRT lines and these towns deserve more parallel bus services. Examples include...
Hougang
MRT line: only 1
Full-day express services: 27 & 72 to Tampines, 81, 88 & 89 to Pasir Ris and 161 to Woodlands (161), none to downtown or western SG
Punggol
MRT line: only 1
Full-day express services: 3 to Pasir Ris, 34/118 to Tampines, 117 to Seletar, none to downtown or western SG
Ang Mo Kio
MRT line: only 1
Full-day express services: none
Sembawang
MRT line: only 1
Full-day express services: 858 to Changi Airport, none to downtown or western SG
Bukit Batok
MRT line: only 1 (one can also take a bus to Beauty World/Hillview to take DTL)
Full-day express services: 174 to Boon Lay, 506 & 985 to Toa Payoh & eastern SG, none to downtown
Jurong West
MRT line: only 1
Full-day express services: only 502 (very very slow from Jurong West to Toh Guan Rd... An one-hour journey from Pioneer Rd North to Orchard spends 40-45 minutes from Pioneer Rd North to Toh Guan)
Lakeside/Corporation
MRT line: only 1
Full-day express services: none (in theory one can take 154 and transfer to 97/197 along AYE, but waiting time can be long)
Of course there are more examples....
One day, if the sole MRT line in these towns has a breakdown, people living in these towns will have a hard time travelling to downtown or across the island, simply due to a lack of fast parallel bus services.
However, there will always be a problem of resource allocation. Do you think LTA can find enough buses and drivers for these fast parallel routes, when their aim is to make everyone take the MRT?

Its a matter of want or don't want only..Make parallel bus route duty more flexible and relaxing for BC.
Premium 552 is no longer in operation.

With the introduction of 974, it is possible that 67 will be split and the western half will be run as full SD. Then link with UBT / Hillview / Beauty World is preserved, while the heaviest CCK -- BPJ loading is now tanked by 974 and 983.
If so, that would be the first major change in DTL2 rationalisation

67 needs to be split into 2... CCK >> Jalan Anak Bukit (loop) and Tampines >> Newton Circus (loop).

Little India to Tampines stretch can be covered by 65 easily. After all, there is 66 going to Bedok Reservoir.
Look like the lta is going to put the bus route service 152 /164 is from where still not planning on hear that
