During pre-DTL2 days, 170 can easily get at least 40-50 foreign workers from Bugis and Little India to their dorms at Woodlands Road, when 960 is so packed that they cannot board. Not sure about the situation after DTL2.
Like what bus analayzer mentioned, ard less than 20 pax lor. Maybe what we need to do is to have someone else to go observe, so that we can all be more convinced? i guess thats the best way ard?
170 weekends loadings is full house but Mon-Thu from Ban San till Woodlands so so la..

hmm i have the feeling too, but Mr. Bus Analayzer is that true?

Little India to Bukit Panjang by DTL2 is 20 mins only (this is official on MRT time card).
Consider how long it takes for 170 from Little India to Bukit Panjang - 50-60 mins depending on congestion around Newton Circus.
Now it is for you to decide how do the workers travel. Do they take DTL2 or do 170 all the way to Woodlands Checkpoint which is 1.5 hours in bus.
99% would take DTL2 from Little India and transfer to 170/178 at BPJ MRT.
Weekends I don't know because I don't observe. It is purely family time. But weekdays it is around 20 pax during off peak and peak hours.
Why don't you take 170 one of the evenings to try it yourself? also take into consideration if there is 961/67/171/178 in front... and how many minutes before is the earlier 170.

Ok thanks for ur advice. Of course ppl would wanna opt for the faster option which is the DTL, but in anyways i shall find time to observe it for myself. Cheers.
Anyways, do yall think the DTL2 rationalisation would only take place when BPITH opens? And i mean the DTL2 sector, not sure for DTL3

Have to consider the famous Jam along Bt Timah/Newton too.
If I were LTA I wouldn't want to be paying mileage to operators that have services run empty on long stretches.

170/170A loading between Ban San and Kranji is moderate at most. Aunty uncle take from rochor alight along bukit timah or to little india. Hillview and bukit panjang got malaysians take to kranji or checkpoint.

Hi mr TIB868X, cannot say that. Mission of public transport is to connect places and people no matter how little people and not solely based on profitability and economics. Cheers. Thanks.

A lot of foreign workers seem to prefer more direct links instead of faster ones.
A few months after DTL2 was introduced, I still saw full upper decks on 66 DD on weekend nights. This was kind of surprising considering there was DTL2, and Bukit Batok / Jurong East had MRTs for decades.
Although I have to admit I'm not so sure for 170. Will try to observe this Sunday night.

If it is all about weekends, keep 170 for weekends. Just like 66 have DDs only on weekends and not weekdays as demand is poor on weekdays.
Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange has 31 parking lots, and currently there are 14 routes (excluding 188E, NR3 and BPS1).
It can accommodate one more bus route.
For Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange, considering it would be permanent (unlike Choa Chu Kang), I hope the government would reserve 20% of the parking lots (at BP) for future use.
As there are 20 parking lots, this means reserve 4 lots, and use 16 lots.
(16 parking lots - 8 routes)
The 2 feeders are definitely going over, along with 75, 184, 700, 970 and 972, which penetrates through Bukit Panjang town, and 979 which has nowhere to go.
176 can be extended to Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange.
I don't know about 971E and 975. Unless, they decide not to reserve lots for future use...

Haha why did u post this here, nth to do wif rationalisation, more like shld be in the bus int/ter thread. But anyways, since u brought it up, i dun think 971E will even enter the ITH, but hard to say for other services, but cfm some will start frm the bus park

I wonder why u exclude 188E? And i wonder why BPS1 does not start frm CCK int. Shortage of space?

during mealbreak timings 67 needs 3-4 lots
190 approx 4-6 lots? 188 and 985 2-3 each
if u add the rest of the svcs cck alr cmi

Agreed! CCK int is already at its max capacity... buses are now parking at the area near the entrance of the int (1 lot), and near the exit of the int in front of NTUC foodfare (3-4 lots), with rigids queueing up for lots even during non-mealbreak timings...

971E better to start from the interior of BPJ, like 850E and 982E, as well as 513 operated by SBST.

Exactly! That was my point, but it might end up with it using the ITH in anyways! (unfavourable) :(

971E won't start from BPJ Interchange IMO.
but, that's probably how LTA thinks...
(one service - two parking lots)

971E's route is largely similar to 972 as I mentioned before...And it would be a waste of berths for a non full day service.

If like this then better for svc 971e to start from BPJ Int, this way will have more parking berths for the other services to share, no? Similar to svc 174e getting its own berth at Boon Lay Int, and when svc 174e is non-operational svc 174 buses can park there as well ...
They should plan like this at least
20 lots for 12m and 5 lots for 18m with an option to park at the sideway if there is parking crunch..
