961 can remain as it is, in the event that 960 is truncated or amended. 178 I feel needs amendments or splitting.
I feel 178B would be better - serve from Kranji MRT to WL Checkpoint and erase that stretch of road for 178 at Woodlands Road (Fire Station/Domitory Area) so that it can go to ave 3 first then straight to marsilling drive without any interruptions caused by the causeway jam.
I'm not saying it should skip the checkpoint stretch. That stretch of road isn't nice when it starts to jam and would take a longer time to travel to Boon Lay Interchange and I have seen alot of SLs slamming on the accelerators hard so that it could reach interchange on time and I have seen 1317R arriving late for its last bus duty before.

Got 170A uh..(from Kranji MRT to WL Checkpoint)
Took 3571J on 960 last night from Flyer area to Rochor station. After that, took DTL to bukit panjang station and walked to blk 183 bus stop. 3571J appeared not long later
Conclusion: 960 takes around the same time as DTL from rochor to BP in smooth traffic

178 has poor loading throughout from Boon Lay to Mandai Estate. Main loading of sv 178 comes between Mandai Estate and Woodlands Interchange.
The route is so winding especially the Bukit Batok - Jurong East - AYE section
+ frequency is terrible that makes it more undesirable.

What do you suggest then?178 Woodlands-Bt Batok?
Actually I need some clarification about sv 178.
A few months ago I took SMB1314Z (with DBS ad) from Woodlands Centre Rd towards Woodlands. To my surprise, 178 was full to the door even when its at night. Apart from being late (somehow following the schedule), where did the crowd come from?

As you will read my post above, 178 does have heavy loading between Mandai Estate to Woodlands. Same like 960/961. Basically many people working there live in Woodlands area and there is no MRT, so have to rely on bus.

Yes that would be good enough. From Bukit Batok to Jurong East you already have sv 66 following the same route. From Jurong East to AYE/Taman Jurong you have sv 49. Though some may argue that 178 goes to Corporation Rd, in reality people along Corporation Rd walk to Corporation Dr to take bus as 178 is the only service and absolutely unreliable.
A short trunk service can be introduced between Boon Lay and Taman Jurong if required to cover missing link of Corporation Rd but not specifically required as sv 30/79/246 can continue to do the job.

Plus people living in JB, alot of people dropped at CIQ from Sg Kadut side

If 178 cut short to BBT,SMRT can save 4-5 buses at least.

The issue is that the stretch of Corporation Rd (between Corporation Dr and International Rd) is currently only served by 178. Cutting it backwards from Boon Lay Int is undesirable at this point.
A solution to support the cutback of 178 would be to amend an existing bus service from Corporation Dr (i.e. 30, 49, 98, 98M, 240 or 246) to Corporation Rd, but let's analyze their importance one by one:
- 30: Currently the fastest route between Boon Lay Int and the residential blocks along Corporation Dr. With such high demand, diverting it to Corporation Rd is undesirable.
- 49: A possible bus service to divert to Corporation Rd with the availability of 98, 98M, 240 and 246, but would that have defeated its purpose of having to complement the above services? Maybe.
- 98/98M: Currently the most convenient and complete route between Lakeside MRT and the residential blocks along Corporation Dr (49 only covers part of Corporation Dr). With its importance in connection, diverting it to Corporation Rd is undesirable as well.
- 240: Plays a supplementary role between Lakeside MRT and the residential blocks along Corporation Dr and is currently the only service plying Kang Ching Rd. It is undoubtedly an important route along Corporation Dr as well, given that a short working trip has to be operated every weekday morning to complement its demand.
- 246: Plays a supplementary role between Lakeside MRT and the residential blocks along Corporation Dr and is the fastest route between Lakeside MRT and Tah Ching Rd. It may not be as important as the other services above in Corporation Dr, but by diverting it to Corporation Rd will mean skipping Lakeside MRT, which is a critical transfer point for the residents of Taman Jurong and Boon Lay Gardens.
Another solution will be to introduce a new service to cover the secluded stretch of Corporation Rd and connect it to Boon Lay, Jurong East and Bukit Batok. However, given that demand along this stretch isn't really high for 178 already, will operating a new service along that stretch even be desirable?
The MRT Downtown Line does not even run to Jurong West. Why are Taman Jurong bus routes mentioned here?

It basically impacts only 2 bus stops along Corporation Road. There is a workaround. There are many services that connect Lakeside MRT to Taman Jurong Estate in different parts including 49, 98, 154, 240, 246.
246 can be amended to ply Corporation Road in both directions, yet not affecting commuters in a big way.
Boon Lay >> Quality Road >> Jalan Tukang >> Corporation Road >> Corporation Dr >> Tah Ching Road >> Yuan Ching Road >> Lakeside MRT >> Corporation Road >> Jalan Tukang >> Quality Road >> Boon Lay.
* This will not upset current users + service still plies Tah Ching Road.
* Also provides nearest MRT connection to Corporation Road / industrial estates.
* The missing link of Boon Lay Place is covered by sv 240 + if they agree to extend sv 52 as per my proposed route.
SBS 133M was withdrawn due to CCLe rationalisation.
SBS 563 (Bt Timah Rd-Fullerton Sq) withdrawn due to DTL2 rationalisation.
67 has gone straight into ashes but amended via Eng Neo Ave, PIE, BKE, Bt Panjang Rd to reduce duplication of DTL, and to provide connectivity.
Therefore 171 will bring back high capacity fleet!
Revival. Ignore this post if you are uninterested, this is just to keep all discussions within one thread.
10 months on DTL2 has passed with only minimal rationalisation (170A, 173, 563, 979, 983).
Therefore it may be unlikely that DTL3 gets major changes (probably not even much fleet downgrades either). Sigh.
Considering the route, a shuttle service (in the event of DTL3 breakdown) would face a lot of winding between Bencoolen to Mattar.
Likely new routes to bridge links:
Take it slow ...

Likely new routes to bridge links:
- DT21 Bencoolen: At least one more service westbound / southwestbound (e.g, to Orchard, aside from 65). Can be a short trunk starting from Queen St Term. Doesn't really need return services, given that it is within walking distance to the bus stop at Rendezvous Hotel. Also, possible extension of 972 to Queen St / Stamford Rd.
- DT22 Jalan Besar: Could use a bus stop for northbound bus services. Currently there's only 23 to loop around to Serangoon Rd. Weld Rd can be converted to be bi-directional and bus-friendly if necessary. 57 can take a short detour via Perak Rd, Upp Weld Rd and Jln Besar.
- DT25 Mattar: Possible new service to link to Tannery Ind estate / Sims Pl / Potong Pasir estate / future Bidadari Int, if 125 is not amended.
- DT27 Ubi: Extend either one of the services along Eunos Link to detour into Ubi Ave 3 / Rd 3 / Ave 2 to improve connections, perhaps to Hougang Ave 3 or Bedok. (Amend 58/94?) Could introduce a new short trunk from Eunos / HGDEP to serve other parts of the industrial estates as well.
- DT28 Kaki Bukit: Extend 228 to loop at Kaki Bukit MRT. Or, divert 22 along Jln Damai and Kaki Bukit Ave 1, with deleted sections still served by 8.
- DT29 Bedok North: Links need to & from Chai Chee / Kembangan / Bedok South Ave 1 areas.
- DT30 Bedok Reservoir: Links needed to & from Bedok North Rd / St 3 / Ave 4.
- DT33 Tampines East: Some Tampines trunks can be diverted to link this station with neighbourhoods such as St 32/34 and St 42/43/45. (My suggestion here) (BusAnalayzer prefers to extend 46 instead, and it seems that his suggestion is more popular.)
Take it slow ...
Service 46 Extension:
Advantages:
For Bugis MRT Station, people would have the right mind choosing any line you want after 2017 for commuters going from Bugis to Tampines. There would not be anymore confusion, as people get two lines to get with.
The only exception is Simei, Pasir Ris or Punggol Waterway, where DTL does not go there.
I think with DTL2 and the good frequencies of S190 and S972,S700 can withdraw liao..Save 18 buses lor

171 also no need to go Bt Timah-Marina already..Ridership on that sectors already high time low..171 Bt Panjang-Yishun or Yishun to Jln Anak Bt...I'm pretty sure LTA will do something

Hi mr TIB585L, this service 171 is an insider info or just your suggestion only? Cheers. Thanks.
