Commuters will now be able to know in advance if there are available seats or standing space on the bus they are waiting for.
A new function on the MyTransport.SG mobile app will provide commuters with bus loading information as well as estimated arrival timings, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Wednesday.
The information will be colour coded, with green indicating seats available, yellow indicating standing available and red indicating limited standing.
The LTA said this will help commuters decide whether to board the arriving bus or wait for the following one.
Whats the use sia.. I'm sure everyone got eyes to see whether the bus is packed. Everyone will get up and squeeze anyway. I would rather they do put arrival timings at bus stops or even better, let passengers board buses heading to the city before 7.45am for free. Im sure it will draw some of the MRT crowds out.
It's amazing to see Singapore becoming a Smart City. :) In UK, the Glasgow Council has the same "Smart City" project plan too! But I never get to see it because I am relocated to Singapore for work :(
But it seems like the Singapore Smart City project plan is more exciting though :)
This means that it is possible to tell roughly if the bus is a SD or DD

Sooner or later Singapore will be like Dubai with air-conditioned bus stops everywhere
that good bus stop with air-con. this might be a good idea to make car user to think before driving the car to work. only problem now is the timing and how to make bus travel faster. one way to have more bus lanes and city area bus lanes full day even on sunday and public holidays.

I think it would be better to reduce the excessive number of bus going on the same routem, then increase the frequency of the ONLY bus on each route.
I believe Mr BusAnalayzer would be super happy.
would be good if the app allows us to chope seat
Using the LTA's app, it's 80-90% Accurate for the loading + timing if u compare with the LTA pannel. It's 1-2mins difference only.
I dont even know how LTA checks the seat availability...
got a censor on each seat?
by the ezlink tap in tap out loh
so they can calculate the number of people in the bus

those who occupy more than 1 seat will be on another app -- STOMP

Yes it's a nice initiative. I hope it does not end up like the upper deck counter, which many times is incorrect.
Tested it yesterday, not really accurate on the seating.. App shows green light, bus came with half standees. 851 YIS bound
maybe to them, half standing is very few passengers already
or the app is not real-time enough
if u see red (can be literally, u know...) will u wait for next bus?
or when the bus arrive, u still try to board?
so this app is quite useless right?

It can be useful sometimes...
Let's say from A to B, you have a direct service X, or you can take another service Y and transfer at somewhere else which may take a longer time. If you check the app and see next bus on sv Y will arrive in 2 minutes and it is quite empty, while a packed-to-the-door bus on sv X will arrive in 5 minutes and all the subsequent buses are also full, would you still wait for sv X? But if they did not tell you the loadings, you may keep on waiting for sv X (since you already missed the bus on sv Y anyway).
Just saying...
