17 needs 1-2 more DDs. Took sv17 (8478D) once during weekdays PM peak (7pm++) departing Pasir Ris packed to the door. Its loads from Bedok is not light either, given that it is the only route serving Bedok North Ave 4.

Bus services will be still needed... but bus services have to be re-routed to meet new towns and connecting new MRTs.
Still have 65 full fleet DD when DTL opens? No right? Still have 64,66 in parallel for long distance.. capacity that is reduced here can be used for increasing capacity in new areas of Yishun, Punggol, Sengkang, Tampines etc.

Now got 6 DDs ;)
sv 99 got another capacity downgrade. Now operating with 15 DDs, 5 SDs compared to 17 DDs, 3 SDs early this year.
What could have transpired the downgrade? I think the loading from Jurong W st 91 to Clementi during PM must be low, as the direction towards st 91 is constantly crowded. Hope the SD timing is appropriate.
So of the 9 DDs with SMRT (not counting the demos)
4 - sv 190
3 - sv 963
1 - sv 188
1 - sv 969
* I hope there are soon DD registration for SMRT... and the next batch also 190 gets another 4... 963 gets another 3... 969 gets another 3...
After meeting this requirement... then SMRT should start giving DDs to 169 and 188... and also introduce DDs on 187 even though it does not have any today...

Your wish of 17 needing extra buses will come true with introduction of 17A full day operating hours.
3422Y fleet add on sv 23 from BSEP, 3421A on sv 147 (previously stated by 7557R).

But how about the Pasir Ris - Bedok North Ave 4 sector? I think he means that sector as well...

Hi mr 23ispolo, i believe once sbs17A is implemented, the loading for sbs 17 will be much more comfortable even though 17A does not go to pasir ris. It will still help in alleviating the load for sbs 17. What do you think? Cheers.

Bulk of the load during Peak occurs from Bedok North 4 that stretch to Bedok Int, and in the other direction. And that is the only stretch of Sv 17 without any duplication from other routes.
Beyond Bedok North Ave 4, there's a fair bit of other svcs to get you from Tampines area to Pasir Ris and vice versa. So if you're talking abt resolving a bottleneck, Sv 17A going full-time is a good move in my opinion. Takes alot of load off from Sv 17 from Bedok Int to Pasir Ris during Peak.
So yeah, agree with your statement.

Do you think ppl from Tampines st 92 come to Bedok North Ave 4 via PIE bridge to take bus to Bedok? I have seen many ppl walking to stop from the open area there.. and wonder where they come from.
Then it struck me that since st 92 has no bus service.. the workers might be crossing over the bridge to take sv 17/17A to Bedok MRT.

That's a pretty long walk if someone is from the industrial estate at Tamp St 92 there to take a bus to Tampines though, considering there's quite a number of other buses at Safra to get to Tampines as well. But that's an alternative as well to use Sv 17, although personally I've not seen what you observed much.

Isnt it better for them to go SAFRA to take 18/168 instead?

Tampines St 92 used to have a Service 68 operating during peak-hours, withdrawn in 2008 due to low demand. I suggest that you should read up more on the history of Singapore's bus services. It can be a good way to deficit whether some of the withdrawn routes should be brought back to life.
68 dont call at SAFRA as it needs to turn into St 92/Ave 4. Maybe if it call at SAFRA, and run full day, it can actually see its loading goes up (as it help shift some load from 22/293)

I thought so as well, hence the question.

I do know there was sv 68 before, but that's not the question I am asking here.
856 & 960: Bendy slot downgrade to Rigid slot (MAN Batch 3)
Similar to the earlier downgrade seen on 187

That is crazy unless they are going to convert them to ADL slots next (maybe through BSEP). 187/856/960 all need more high capacity buses.
sv 963 got one more BSEP add, that too DD

To be honest, SMRT throw more bendies and rigids at the same time. They are a lot of extra buses on 960 currently.

856 wich slot kena downgrade? Any bendies missing? 187 1089X kene throw to 184
Just what was expected:
sv 972 gets 3 more BSEP DDs... now the fleet is 8 DDs, 5 SDs... just perfect for this kind of service.
Now the BPJ/CCK pax should stop complaining... as with 972 getting majority DD fleet... and 190 getting major capacity increase...
Together this should relieve the mess on the 190 corridor.
