However in practice RWS8 faces the issues similar to deploying double-decker buses on short-distance/feeder services, and neither 188R nor 963R is ever going to get the demand it needs to justify double-decker buses. RWS88 does not exist anymore.
As for the condition of the OC500LE, it comes down to maintenance. Give the Enviro500 MMC a bit of time and your ride experience is not going to be too different from the OC500LE.
soon things will change when LTA buy over all the buses. hopefully for the good of the people have a good maintenance on the buses. or LTA should look into how to set a standard on bus maintenance. every month bus send for Perventive maintenance like taxi? not enougn bus on the road? let those PTE bus company come in to take over the time slot. if not then news will come out a SMRT DD bus burn on the road.

First of all, I never said it MUST be Enviro500. All I asked was the possibility. Also,
1) Why must it NOT be Enviro500? There's already a Citaro, 2 OCs and a lot of O405 buses which will deregister in due time, and perhaps an Enviro500 or two can replace them. Sure, it's more feasible to deploy A22, but I was just asking about the height restriction.
Also,
2) While the frequency isn't too bad, more tourists may or may not take RWS8 over the never-not-crowded Sentosa Express, and we need to assure them that they have a seat like 49 having DDs even though demand is not exactly that high. Especially the holiday season when everyone wants to go....
So back to my question, can a Enviro500 bus ply RWS8, RWS88 and 188R?
What I meant was of all the choices(with SDs), why did you choose a DD? Is it because of the demand or what?
And since you mentioned that you never said it must be Enviro500, why you mentioned must it NOT be Enviro500?
I'm not so sure about the demands but I don't think it's needed for everyone to have a seat as they will be alighting very soon..even people are packed on the Sentosa Monorail during PH/Weekends/Holiday..
Plus you mentioned the may or may not take RWS8, so what's the purpose of deploying these Enviro? A little wastage of resources...

I still try to always take the Hispano O405s (both OAC and CAC) on RWS8, because I can be assured of a good ride in and/or our of Sentosa. Those Hispano O405s have not lost their shine in running all these years.
I think they will clean it only when it's refurbishment time...they hardly got time to care for their interior apart from engine overhaul/air-con fixture etc.[mainly the important areas] or they only care abt the good ones...
Aiya OCs have noisy engine sounds one..but never heard a worst one than CDGE/MAN/Scania..
Actually they should reuse their Hispano O405s for other purpose..instead of scraping. I was hoping that LTA were to pass on these Hispano O405s to "loan" private operators for PPSS. It's way better than using coach buses.
I can only imagine that SMRT wants to get rid of the 0405s ASAP and no sane pte operator will purchase that bus.
Unless you wanna kill your operating costs operating that fuel-guzzling thing.
They got rid of the Lances, L113s early because those were even worse to maintain.
Hmm but is it possible to change the engine parts like how Thailand did?
Starting second half of 2017 we will get to see the emission standards of vehicles to be Euro 6...

hybrid bus semi electric bus like toyoda prius.
Countdown begins for buses to be on the roads...
In Asia, Hong Kong, Japan, China already using Hybrid, Green buses, SG still very much lagging behind and we still have the cheek to promote China Tianjin Eco city...
Most Hong Kong Airport vehicles are hybrid or green technology...
Originally posted by carbikebus:Thai is they mass purchase parts from SBST depots last time and also theyre known to cannibalise parts from scrapped buses..When times up they also find other alternatives..The O405s might be reliable non aspirated buses but also consume more fuel and maintenance due to aging..Hopes this help and by 2016 LTA hopes that all the fleets will be at least Euro III
SMRT's O405s are turbocharged...
Are you sure its turbocharged? Its 12 litre yet only got less than 1000nm of torque..

The SBS Transit O405s had the MK1 chassis, which is naturally aspired (OM447h, 250hp). However, SMRT's O405s got the updated MK2 chassis (still Euro 1), which is either turbocharged (OM447hA with 246hp, SMRT's option) or naturally aspirated...

SMRT's O405 are all equipped with a OM447hA turbocharged engine as mentioned by 23ispolo, but not intercooled.
Can cross check with the engine number, first 6 digit is 447.956 which refers to the OM447hA engine. SBS's engines starts with 447.908, which is the version without turbo (OM447h).

SMB3503G..

Just to clarify, SMB3501L chassis no. is 3366, so it's the first Zhuhai assembled SMRT E500 MMC...
Sorry for the misconception... But the UK demo will be registered at later date...
BSEP E500MMC:

SMB3502J - SFD76CLR5DGTL3367

Now I'm a bit confused, what about SMB5001A and SMB5002Y? Those chassis numbers are earlier (3324 and 3345) and there are minor differences on the bodywork.

The UK demos have already been registered as 5001 and 5002.
The malaysian built chassis assembled in zhuhai china have the chassis code of EMTLXXXX, while the ones built in UK are tagged DGTLXXXX.
One easy way to seperate the vehicles without looking at the rego plates are to look for the holes for foglight on the front bumpers. UK demos have them, while the zhuhai built ones does not.

SMB5001A and SMB5002Y are like 2nd and final decisions for the layout of certain parts of the bus... There are differences between each other and the actual production batch of SMB3501L & SMB5003U onwards...
Chassis no.3324 & 3345 are like testing for the overall layout after the everything hasassembled...
Chassis no.3366 onwards are then the actual production batch which will have the same positioning for the parts unlike 3324 & 3345...
