I thought they would want to deploy it on 190 first, precisely because it is problematic.
It would make for good publicity as a very visible form of "improvement", given that this particular route has been receiving a lot of flak in recent months.

They will definitely give a bulk of DDs to Sv 190... But SMRT does not have experience with DDs... Why add to the problems of 190... Better to try out on 963 first for few days.

why no experience with DDs ? DD still a bus ma. First of all i think SBST DDs on 190 was right until LTA switches bus routes with TIBS. that one mistake made by LTA never check the high demand for the service properly and just allow tibs to deploy SDs bus on the service. even with bendy buses also cannot made it. just let SMRT learn from mistakes. next time SMRT might not have a chance as the bus service might run by other operators.

They might not have any prior experience in handling Double Deckers. True, but did u realize that 190 has alot of other SBST routes(which uses DD) that duplicates it's section? Bukit Panjang got 555 using wright every morning, Choa Chu Kang got 556 and 557. Orchard needless to say, one whole bunch of services.
Now what about 963 at hillview? Got SBST service that use DD? Before they can use DD they must make sure the trees are properly trimmed first. Those tree guard bars on the E500MMCs aren't gonna be of much help when it comes to thicker tree branches.
Tbh, they are saving themselves by deploying it on 190, and then services like 963 can get more bendy for the time being. Deploying on 963 first is gonna give them more problems instead of 190. Imagine what people are gonna say when they deploy it on 963 first? More people like the infamous Shawn Ong will come up and kpkb against SMRT again. "Why new double decker never give 190?"

Wah lao,Buses havent start revenue svc already got so many displeasure..Learn to thankful and be grateful that SMRT had taken the steps to buy DDs leh..Comment this and that like very pro..Go and join MOT/LTA or the two PTOs and manage bus operations la then u can see if your wishes can come true or not..Its not like playing lego brudder fit there and here.There is a lot of pressure from all sides to perform

What I felt...
Firstly...SMRT did test run on the road, which is believed to be the same as 963. So I presume the test went smoothly without any obstacles. Even before the DD, they did check the height restrictions etc. with their vehicle.
Secondly...if any operators were to listen to Shawn Ong and be bothered by it, I think the company will have problem liao.
Thirdly...if it's really gonna be under 963, the bus can deploy to 190 slot still...
Lastly...deliveries are still on-going. The 3rd bus isn't gonna arrive one/two years later...
Anyway, the bus could be test running on different routes now...so yeah

i think some where in june will be the first smrt dd service started with 2 DDs then by year end more then 10 of them. replacing bendy buses.
