well, it is quite frustrating when you are at a bus stop waiting for a bus to arrive, then you thought you saw your bus arriving, get excited, then realised that actually, it is another bus service that has a bus number that looks identical to the bus service you want to take.
It is even worse when you end up taking the wrong bus service because you saw the wrong bus number and mistakenly took the wrong bus, thinking that it is the right bus.
I feel that LTA should re-number some bus services to avoid anymore confusion. To minimise short-term impact, the re-numbering should be done on bus services that are newer or less used. (I do not think there would be long-term impact)
For instance, at Clementi area, bus numbers 105 and 185 look very identical. To avoid confusion, I think 185 (introduced in december 2006) should be re-numbered to another number that can distinct it from the other bus services in Clementi, Jurong East and Jurong West.

How about improving the signage as an alternative option? What can be done better?
62 and 82. Especially the Citaro EDS (don't know what it's called)
'Renumbering hangers' like the BSEP hangers
e.g. Service 62 will be called Service 164 from 23 May 2014.
Or maybe not. If SBST renumbers the bus service, then ppassengers of that service may be waiting forever if they don't know about the renumbering.
May I say people need to improve their eye sight... get spectacles etc if they cannot distinguish between 3 and 5 or 0 and 8.
Also the destination should give them an idea which bus it is.
105 - Serangoon / Jurong East
185 - Buona Vista / Soon Lee
** Can't you make out just by seeing the name signage? Do you really want to change bus numbers for this??
183 - Science Park / Jurong East
185 - Buona Vista / Soon Lee
** Where is the confusion?? Let's not create problems when there are none.
Don't cry over spilt milk...
What has been done is done...
Numbering in the past, mass purchase of the same bus model has all been done...
You can't do much about it... Maybe you could adjust your eyesight a bit, pay more attention, yeah?
What a thread! A totally uncalled for non-issue! Cannot believe this!!!

Ha ha ha..
960 and 980 - Always get mixed up along Bugis and Little India areas.
what about same number but different routes?
like 293 at tenpenis
or 136 at serangoon gardens
why cannot just rename or put A and B
They should have 8 digit numbers.
Every bus has a different number.
Even those on the same route.
