Useful Bus Abbreviations and Acronyms

  For new bus fans:

  Bus Operators:

  SBST = Singapore Bus Services (SBS) Transit

  SMRT = Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) (Buses)

  TT = Tower Transit 

  GAG: Go-Ahead Group

  LTA = Land Transport Authority

  Bus operations =/= 100% SBST, Train operatons =/= 100% SMRT.

  Tower Transit will start operations in the second quarter of 2016.

  Go-Ahead will start operations in the third quarter of 2016.

  All (SBST, SMRT and TT):

  desto = destination plate (the plate on older buses that shows the bus service)

  rego = registration plate

  cameo = bus that is not operating on its deployed service

  perm = permanent (deployed) service of a bus

  SD = single-decker bus

  DD = double-decker bus

  WAB = Wheelchair accessible bus

  EDS = Electronic display system (displays service number and route details on front and side EDS, service number only on back EDS. All buses except Volvo B10M, Volvo B10BLE CNG and VO3X Batch 1/2 use EDSes. Dennis Trident has no back EDS.)

  BSEP = Bus Service Enhancement Programme (a programme introduced in 2012 by LTA in which LTA will take over some buses from SBST/SMRT's orders to improve bus services in Singapore)

  BSRF = Bus Service Reliability Framework (a programme introduced in 2014 by LTA to improve the reliability of public transport in Singapore, there are currently 31 bus services under this programme.)

  BSOL = Bus Service Operating Licence (a licence which SBST/SMRT are given to operate bus services in Singapore, which will expire on 31st August 2016)

  GCM = Government Contracting Model (a model in which LTA will own all bus assets (i.e. buses, bus interchanges, bus depots etc.)

  Citaro = Mercedes-Benz O530 Citaro (currently operated by all public bus operators)

  ITH = Integrated Transport Hub (air-conditioned bus interchange with MRT and retail facilities (shopping malls)

  SBST only:

  B10M = Volvo B10M (can be any bodywork)

  DM = Volvo B10M Duple Metsec (retired in 2015)

  Strider = Volvo B10M Walter Alexander Strider (retired in 2015)

  DM3500 = Volvo B10M Duple Metsec 3500

  LO2X = Leyland Olympian 2-Axle Non-Air-conditioned (retired in 2003)

  LO3X = Leyland Olympian 3-Axle (retired in 2013)

  VO2X = Volvo Olympian 2-Axle Non-Air-conditioned (retired in 2013)

  VO3X = Volvo Olympian 3-Axle (currently retiring)

  VSO = Volvo B10TL (Volvo Super Olympian)

  CDGE = Volvo B9TL (CDGE)

  WEG(2) / Wright = Volvo B9TL (Wright Eclipse Gemini 2)

  SMRT only:

  Bendy = Articulated 'bendy' bus

  PIS = passenger information system (an electronic display in some SMRT buses that shows the next bus stop)

  A22 = MAN NL323F A22

  A24 = MAN NG363F A24 (bendy)

  A95 = MAN ND363F A95 (double decker)

  ADL / E500 = Alexander Dennis Limited E500 (double decker)

  TT only:

  East District:

  AMDEP: Ang Mo Kio Depot (SBST)

  BNDEP: Bedok North Depot 

  CGBP: Changi Bus Park, sub-depot of BNDEP

  West District:

  BBDEP: Bukit Batok Depot

  ARBP: Ayer Rajah Bus Depot, sub-depot of BBDEP

  SLBP: Soon Lee Bus Park (a main depot, despite its name)

  Not to be confused with Seletar Bus Depot (SLDEP).

  HGDEP: Hougang Depot (in west district for some reason, even though it is located in the north-east)

  SMRT:

  AMDEP: Ang Mo Kio Depot (SMRT)

  KJDEP: Kranji Depot

  WLDEP: Woodlands Depot, interchangeable with WPDEP

  WLBP/WPDEP: Woodlands Bus Park, interchangeable with WLDEP

  GCM:

  BUDEP: Bulim Depot (TT)

  LYDEP: Loyang Depot (GAG)

  SLDEP: Seletar Depot (Currently in tendering)

  Not to be confused with SBST's Soon Lee Bus Park (SLBP).

  A = Morning duty (> Afternoon) = A for SBST, AM for SMRT

  P = Afternoon duty (> Night, continue from A/AM shift) = P for SBST, PM for SMRT

  S = Split shift (Morning and Evening) = S for SBST, S1 for SMRT
