Alt one shld try e GMB for the other way dwn to central, faster n speedier
Peak GMB like not very fast cos they run on schedule. Try the RMBs departing from ground floor of Langham Place Hotel towards Tsuen Wan, all rushing like mad and even faster than taxis.
Took TIB500G (WLDEP SP) on 852 (852AM07) from Marymount Road (Blk 254) to Bukit Batok Int this Friday (11 April). The bus speeds through a small section of HDB flats of Shunfu and Bishan, and the private housing at Marymount. It will turn to Marymount Lane, then Upper Thomson Road, passing by the Bishan Fire Station and ending its straight route from Yishun Int. It passed by Macritchie Reservoir and Mount Alvernia Hospital at the viaduct connecting Upper Thomson Road to Lornie Road, opposite Macritchie Reservoir.
After the bus stop, it travels up a curvy slope onto Lornie Road, joining the traffic from the viaduct. The quiet forests surround the traffic and makes the ride peaceful and brief, yet enjoyable, unlike Bukit Timah Road which is notorious for traffic jams. After the forests, the bus passes by a junction with Cluny Road and passes over Adam flyover. Then, the bus stops after just passing by The Japanese Association. After leaving the stop, it goes to the left of the fork between Adam Road and Farrer flyover. After a stop beside Adam Road Food Centre, the bus turns to Bukit Timah Road.
The bus passes through Bukit Timah Road, with heavy traffic and many road diversions, due to the construction of the Downtown Line, coming up in 2016. The two directions of the road are separated by trees, like a forest. The bus passes by various schools and several ‘Avenues’, the most famous being Sixth Avenue. After passing by Sixth Avenue Centre, it will go onto the left side of the slip road, which is one of the most unique slip roads in Singapore. Finally, it passes by King Albert Park, which has been closed for renovations.
After passing by a slip road to the PIE (Tuas), the bus stops at a Shell kiosk and pass by Bukit Timah Food Centre, where a large variety of local delicacies are sold. The road is also uneven, due to the construction of Beauty World MRT station. After the junction with Jalan Jurong Kechil, it passes by Beauty World Centre and the old Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. The bus launches onto Upper Bukit Timah Road, passing by Bukit Timah Courts and some petrol kiosks. On the left are some forests and on the right are some private condos, including Southaven II. After a brief sector here, it turns into Old Jurong Road.
Old Jurong Road has a lot of forests in the surroundings, due to Bukit Batok Nature Park in the vicinity. The road will merge with Jalan Jurong Kechil at a junction and becomes Bukit Batok East Ave 6. The bus passes a junction with Bukit Batok East 2 and Bukit Batok Street 25, passing by a shallow collection of private housing on the left. After the junction, the surroundings finally transform into the HDB flats of Bukit Batok. After one stop, the bus turns onto Bukit Batok East Ave 3, a main road connecting Toh Tuck Ave to Bukit Batok Central. The bus passes by several junctions and finally reachs Bukit Batok Int after 2 stops.
During this trip, there was a lot of different landscapes as the bus headed west. However, the bus ride was satisfying, as it passes through many unique roads, such as the slip road at Bukit Timah Road and Old Jurong Road. The bus also did a good job in getting to Bukit Batok in just 35 minutes!!! Lovely ride!

RMBs are very fast.
All of them.
Which is why they are infamous for exceedingly high rates of accidents.
Try at ur own risk.
And of course they are faster than taxis. They ARE like taxis. One thing to note, they do not accept octopus cards.

What are kickdowns?
The driver pressing the accelerator to the max, and having the bus change gear at a really fast speed (later than usual). Love it especially when 36 BCs kickdown on the highway!
When the BC releases the accelerator, SBS5195P produces a 'hammer sound'.
SBS8169X (BNDEP 36) on 36 with kickdowns on the ECP, shiok ah!

Sometimes, the bus you take may not make your ride the best, but the experience you get also plays a big part in making your journey/ride the best.

Yep, that view was just one of the best! So sad, we can now only take 36 or 518 (all SDs) to enjoy that view...
