From the straits times news paper forum today 7-02-14-----
WE THANK Mr Felix Kim for his letter ("Double-deckers more efficient"; Wednesday).
While we agree that double-decker buses do occupy a smaller vehicular footprint on our roads, it has also been observed that young children, persons with disabilities and elderly passengers may find it difficult to make their way to the upper deck, especially when they are travelling on shorter-distance routes.
In these instances, articulated buses will be a more efficient way of commuting for them.
In addition, articulated buses are able to accommodate larger passenger loads and, as they come equipped with three doors, facilitate swifter boarding and alighting.
That being said, we have procured a new batch of double-decker buses, which will be plying the roads alongside the articulated buses in the later part of this year.
Both types of buses are needed to fulfil different passenger needs.
SMRT remains committed to delivering safe and reliable bus journeys for all our passengers, and we will continue to explore ways to enhance our commuters' experience.

If its due to heights of trees along Upp Bukit Timah, NParks can do the tree trimming, other than tt, no reason y the mentioned services cannot use DD...
Very good. SMRT finally made the 100% correct move. Unlike some here who keeps on pushing their one-sided myopic extreme favours of DDs... (not referring to you ah BusAnalayzer)

I believe there isnt a need to do that. Chop down tree, bad for environment. Chop down branches, will grow again (I think).
Two ways: one is to use bendies, two is to skip Upp Bukit Timah Rd completely. After all there are alt that other countries have alr been using since long time ago.
from the letter i think articulated buses for feeder buses or short distance route. DD buses for service like 190 or some other bus service route that need DD.
Bendy bus for LESS congested road, DD for MOST congested road lorh... win win situation.

That is just a demo for now, furthermore not sure if Mercedes with MAN DD bodywork or an authentic MAN.
Enviro should come first.

I know you are not referring to me as I support more the need of higher capacity buses and DDs in CBD area. For feeders/intra towns, I have always maintained bendies are not bad.
