Like the MRT, buses should also have fare gates. This helps to counter the use of fake Ez-link cards.
What the fuck.
This is the most absurd idea ever.
Lazy type essays, so I will tell you in points.
1. Space
2. Costs
3. Maintenance
And fake Ez link cards?! Seriously where did you get that idea from? I mean, common nsense tells you ez link cards, no matter how much you forge them, still needs your OWN money to use what. And anyways, will the machine even detect fake cards??

The machine will not detect fake cards, but what if the person uses a device to make a fake sound?

*facepalm*
You tell me how to do that without BC noticing loh.
And BTW, why would anyone bother just for a trip that costs less than a dollar or two?

Tell me if you have known or even see such cases before.
I don't like to say this but this topic is really far too disgusting for me...I had not been seeing kids being over imaginative lately during these years.
And the fake sounds that can ever be produced is by the older card readers itself...but definitely not a single or double beep.
ABSOLUTELY. WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA. Increase travel time of all commuters by double as well... Apart from all the other points listed above.
On a related note, I do feel the bus operators need to be more strict with fare monitoring. I often see students and even many adults including old people. They enter bus, and in 1-2 stops will tap their card. Then shamelessly they will still sit or stand around for another few stops. This happens very often where people try to cut costs.
At many crowded stops, some evil people also do not tap the card - often noticed on 70/43 at NEX. Very difficult for BC to keep track when 70 people board the bus on one stop. Some people just travel free this way.
There is hardly a ticket officer who comes in buses to check if you have paid your fare. Something should be done about this, but of course NO FARE GATES.

he think it is that powerful.
it is a waste on ulu bus stops and bus stops that only served by one bus.
i am not only against this but to some extent, LRTs.
kupang and stations along the Punggol West service are not used till date
Bukit Panjang LRT is a so-called white elephant.

wait till DTL stage 2 starts operation.

the way he phrased it implies that he wants it on the bus stop.
"Like the MRT, buses should also have fare gates."
because, currently the MRT separates the paid areas at the stations. so he think why not buses.
anyway, SBST had more than 3000 buses and SMRT had about 1000. so many buses, waste time and effort. don't even think of it.

Erm...
Yea there will be effect, but still not to the severity of a white elephant. You see, there are still people who need to get to the town centre from the other areas, to transit to the MRT, bus, or go to the town mall. There are also many students who take the system, as it is the fastest way to get to the various schools, something both the MRT and the buses cannot achieve.

anyway, the link between the DTL and the BPLRT is unpaid.
back to the topic, fare gates on buses is definitely out. fare gates at bus stops can get complex when it is implemented. buses travelling in the opposite direction are not linked, unlike the LRTs. bus stops could be virtually linked. (e.g. bus stop 59429 with 59421). however pax from bus service 860 who then takes 853 is not covered (59429 and 59049 are not covered)
Why fare gates when you can install ERP gantries hahahaha
