I am creating this thread to document observation/comments of impact of DTL Operation on Buses.
This could be two ways:
1. DTL has taken away load from some buses
2. DTL has enhanced load on some other bus services as the point of peak loading could have shifted
66 - Bukit Timah Road and Ubi - Bedok Reservoir Road sectors affected
67 and 961 - Bukit Panjang - Bukit Timah Road sector will be affected (due to duplication)
190/700/960/972 - all not (really) affected, because of faster BKE/PIE sector...
852 - Bukit Timah Road - Marymount (due to people using Circle Line)...

For 66, 67, 852 and 961 I suggest the affected sectors to become non-stop sectors, to allow faster and better inter-town connectivity and shortened trips. This kills two birds with a stone: to allow a long route to be trimmed (and attract more long-haul pax) and at the same time avoid route withdrawal/rationalisation due to duplication. It also mildly relieves traffic along the highly-congested Bukit Timah Rd.
I do foresee a fleet cut for 700 and 960, in the wake of duplication and bendies contesting traffic along Orchard Rd and Little India respectively. I hope the bendies can swap with the rigids from high-loading feeders and Intratowns.
171 will be hugely affected between BPJ and Newton. I foresee this service being rationalized in the wake of many other services plying between BPJ and Bukit Timah Road. People from BPJ will still have 190, 700, 972 as faster options to Orchard / CBD.
171 should be revised to ply CCK - Yishun via Woodlands Road, Ten Mile Junction creating a completely new travel option for CCK people to Yishun side.

Regarding 171, I would like to propose a different route: to ply Sembawang Ctrl before going back to Mandai and instead of entering BPJ, it should go onto BKE and follow 190 route to Scotts Rd and down all the way to Marina Centre.

Other than Sembawang, could it use Holland Road/Napier Road (from Clementi Road), following 75's route, then following 77 to Marina Centre Ter? It can help with 77's load from Holland Village (where it's load can almost fill up the whole bus)... Although duplication again...

I think also can lah... But it is gonna affect the huge load at Newton Stn...

I see... If 171 don't go there anymore, then no more bus to Marina Centre Ter from there (although passengers could take NSL to City Hall Stn)... Probably not much will be done to 171 when DTL Stage 2 opens, since it has a load there, as you have mentioned...

852 can actually stay with its current route. It helps to provide Yishun a unique connection to Bukit Timah Road, which was practically why 852 wasn't withdrawn (due to public outcry of missing connection), although it was going to... It also means that people no need to take MRT and change at Bishan...

Why? There is 128, 162, 700 all going to Shenton Way. 171 has huge loading for Marina Center? I often see 171 buses ending up at Marine Center with not more than 10 pax on board. Even PM peak, at Esplanade bus does not have more than 10-15 pax on board.
the topic is about STAGE 1....
i see ppl talking about Sv66 in bedok reservoir road??
Fancy some dim sum in Chinatown before getting in some shopping at Bugis? One train takes you there, no hassle, no fuss. No need to change trains, the first stage of the Downtown line connects Chinatown to Bugis directly.
Opening Date: 22 December 2013
Length: 4.3km
Stations: 6
Interchanges: Bugis, Promenade, Bayfront, Chinatown
Bugis – Promenade – Bayfront – Downtown – Telok Ayer - Chinatown
no need to discuss, no amendment will be done to the bus services.. the most they reduce some buses.. and that it... they dun dare to remove those parallel route already....
I dun think with the bursting population and FTs here bus svc will be affected and if yes why theres tons of bsep?Gov suka2 use taxpayer money help PTOs?Now 5.4m sooner our damm terok humid sinkapore will reach 6.9m..You think.
if you had to travel from China town to Bugis, what would you prefer?
Take sv 2, 12 or take MRT?

MRT. It is faster
Originally posted by SBS5011L:MRT. It is faster
I doubt. Will be almost same time. You go down to MRT - take escalators, walk to platform. Do the same at Bugis. Sv 2 and 12 within 6-8 stops you are at Bugis.

During festive seasons or during evening peak/ night it is advisable to take MRT.. the jam at chinatown is not a joke

MRT is faster...
You tell me if you can pass ETS St without more than 3 red lights and heavy traffic. I won't really believe man.
And what about the freq? I will honestly tell you DTL trains arrive 40s faster than other lines, due to trains leaving the Stn faster.
But I do agree the train takes a big merry-go-round before reaching the end...
Some of you suey suey become a route planner im sure our bus networks sure lost big money, see 2-3 buses full oh "replace that fleets with DDs faster",see only hantu take that svc "oh withdraw or extend or amend that svc to other routes if not lose money"..kanasai u think bus runtime, planning, fleet managers all sit down lim kopi watch porn movies ah bro?Think by just see 1-2 weeks changes must be made ah?Imagine dual depot control like SL & BN svc like 30 one goondoo planner say "wah wasted ah 30 goes express so long at MCE and then this goondoo go do amendmend serve other routes for profits?Funny sial u all damm funny like kookoo, try again
stage 1 also can talk about 66/67/171.
later stage 2 talk about 249.
stage 3 talk about 882.
The best thing is to get rid of cars to make way for newer population.
Not buses, how can you think of lowering the COE to 1,997?
Originally posted by lemon1974:no need to discuss, no amendment will be done to the bus services.. the most they reduce some buses.. and that it... they dun dare to remove those parallel route already....
The parallel routes are made permanent and no more removing can already. The most is to cut down cars, or high-occupancy vehicles on board.

No discussion on Stage 1. users better think twice.

66, 67 and 961 can resolve the dispute of Bukit Timah Road trees when DTL2 opens.
