  The Taman Jurong Bus Terminal is 2.1 km straight-line distance away from Jurong East Bus Interchange, while Boon Lay Bus Interchange is 2.6km straight-line distance away.   Service 49 serves residents staying in Taman Jurong and Hong Kah - both are sub-zones of Jurong West Planning Area. Hence, it would be logical to extend the route to Boon Lay Bus Interchange as that is part of the town centre for Jurong West, along with Jurong Point and the Frontier Community Place.

  While extending the route to Boon Lay Bus Interchange from Jurong West Street 42, LTA should take this opportunity to improve and enhance the bus connectivity to Taman Jurong from Wenya and, if possible, from Yunnan (Gek Poh and Nanyang), which currently do not have any bus link to Taman Jurong. Perhaps it should do it while taking the opportunity to relieve load off bus routes 99 and 185, which complement each other and both experience high crowding levels during peak periods. Still, it must try to ensure that the travelling time to Boon Lay Bus Interchange from Jurong West Street 42 is within 35 minutes (current travelling time from Jurong West Street 42 to Boon Lay Bus Interchange) or shorter.

  It would be ideal if the journey on service 49 from Jurong West Street 42 to Boon Lay Bus Interchange is around 25 minutes, similar to bus journeys to the interchange from Jurong West Street 91(3.4km), 81(2.9km) and 72(3.6km). In short, the distance the bus travel from Jurong West Street 42 to Boon Lay Bus Interchange should be around 3.3km (+/- 0.3km).

  Personally, I would suggest that it be extended this way to Boon Lay Bus Interchange:

  1. Jurong West Street 51
  2. Jurong West Street 41 (skipping Hong Kah Point)
  3. Jurong West Street 42  
  4. Jurong West Avenue 1
  5. Corporation Road
  6. Jurong West Avenue 2
  7. Jurong West Avenue 4
  8. Jurong West Street 64
  9. Jurong West Central 3 (Boon Lay Bus Interchange)

  ^ My suggested extended section to Boon Lay Bus Interchange would mean that the Easternmost bus stop (blk 430) at Jurong West Street 42 is around 4.1km away (actually, it is 4.06km but I rounded it up) from Boon Lay Bus Interchange. This is the shortest extended route I can think of, which mostly does not duplicate any existing bus route.

  
  

  I estimate that it would take up to 27 minutes to travel from the Easternmost bus stop (blk 430) to Boon Lay Bus Interchange, using this extended route. This is shorter than the travelling times on the bus services currently available from Boon Lay Bus Interchange to the same Easternmost bus stop (blk 430), and comparable to the 24 minutes on bus service 241 to the furthest bus stop (blk 924)  and the 30 minutes on bus service 181 to the furthest HDB blk (blk 275D).

  
  

  I am aware of the regular traffic jams on Jalan Boon Lay and Jurong West Avenue 4, thus I purposely design this extended route to avoid the jammed sections, which also happens that this extended route is the shortest.

  
  

  To some extent, it will make it easier/faster for one to board a bus from the bus stops along Jurong West Street 64 to Boon Lay Bus Interchange, and improve bus connectivity from Jurong West Street 64 and Avenue 4, to Jurong West Avenue 1 and Taman Jurong areas. As one can transfer bus at the bus stop at Jurong West Avenue 4, it would also improve bus connectivity from the areas along Pioneer Road North. Generally, it would improve the bus connecvity throughout the entire sub-zones of Jurong West Planning Area, as well as provide alternatives for commuters to bypass Boon Lay Bus Interchange - relieving the crowding levels at Boon Lay Bus Interchange.

  With this extension, the bus will have to ply Jurong West St 41/42 in both directions. This way Jurong West St 42 will be connected to JE, Lakeside and Boon Lay.

  Can't wait to take sv 49. It will relieve the loading on 334 to some extent, but I still suspect 334 to be crowded during peak hours, especially PM peak.

  98A almost becomes redundant with launch of this service 49. The crossover from sv 97 can be given to 49 instead of 98A (only that it is BSEP).

  And for your last question, I wanna say, whether it is called 49 or not I won't really take it coz I rarely even reach the west, leave alone taking 49 (I stay in the east and the places the svc plies aren't where I will go when I do go to the west side).

  Just that SLBP does not have them, there might be some depot transfer for BSEP with SP Citaros from other depots or SLBP will need to convert the BSEP Citaros on existing services to WEG. 

  Some services 79, 52 (2), 154 (2), 243G. These 6 buses could be then given along with 6420 that has just been registered.
