CNG too inefficient and expensive to run. These buses were bought in to run Jurong Island services. After SBST lost the tender, the CNG buses became a burden. They can only refuel at Jurong Island. Since the buses no longer had any reason to go there, to go empty all the way in and out of JI just to refuel was seen as a waste by SBST and rightly so. No wonder they went so fast.

At least there are still CNG taxis.
It will be replaced by hybrid buses lol, the Wright Electrocity can replace the Volvo B10BLE CNG. Maybe they can source out like the Optare Tempo hybrid will be replaced eventually on routes 90 and E8.

Too bad its 100% CNG and not hybrid(CNG/Diesel) else you see SBST will dismantle the CNG system and let it run a few years before deregistered
Save a few cents to run but maintenance is a headache, engine parts like block heads get easy hot too guess its aint worth it at all
SBST can cannibal the front for 1688K too,the tiny alien headlights on 1688 is just fugly
i still saw 1 CNG bus doing on 105 last Sunday
2995,2999 still running last week, saw it at TPY morning
this is a total scam... the CNGs are still alive and kicking. If u look closely at the bus, it is clearly photoshopped

Maybe you're right, I am starting to see hints of photoshop on the bus.
1. Windows of the bus seem to reflect a housing flat.
2. The paint brush tool seems to be used on the side windows
3. Front of the bus blurry, like the photo was cut and paste like that.
4. Rear windows have hints of paint brush tool also.
5. The damages on the side looks fake up close.
6. License plate slot seems fake also.
7. Shadows of the bus don't look right.
8. Paint brush tool seem to be used on the ground also just after the rear wheels.
However, this image is already photoshopped, so I won't rule out the possibility that these effects are a result of it. The only way to find out is to see SBS2991C on service.
I saw an NAC bus

2991C still in service. Only 2988M is not seen as of now.
The truck's rear isn't "touching" the bus too.
No wonder I was doubting the possibility. And to add on all the CNG is based in SLBP so refueling isn't a very big problem too.
So SBS2991C is still on service, but I think the bus pictured here is not SBS2988M because 2988 does not have the rear window desto holder if I am not wrong. I think it's just a hoax. Anyways I found this photo on MEWR website for a press release dated in 2001. SBS Transit "Australian edition"!

That's why they are in SLBP in the first place.
