The incident goes like this:
An Indian bus driver from Malaysia driving service 160 tried to smuggle 496 cartons of cigarettes but was caught at Woodlands Checkpoint. The bus driver hid the cigarettes below the floorboard. It happened in Nov 2010.
Bus involved was SBS796M. It remained there until the end of it's lifespan (31 Mar 2011).

Mark III lifespan end on 2011? I tot the Mark III was just deregistered around 2012. SBS796M the first to be scrapped?
It is unknown why the vehicle didn't continue service afterwards. SBS796M lifespan was only extended for a year up to 2011, and was not extended for another year after reaching the end of it's lifespan. Since the bus spent almost half a year impounded it would need some servicing before it can be driven again, and since it does not have much time left I guess SBS just let it go.

Nope. Most of the MK3s were given only 1 year lifespan extension back in 2009/2010, while some were de-registered due to poor conditions and accidents. Then in 2010/2011 again, only majority of those that survived past 18 years without problems were given the final 1 year lifespan extension to make it 19 years. Not all MK3s were given both extensions as you can see.
