I never tried the peak hours, but I just spent more than 14mins to wait for a ride to Jalan Kayu to swope 86. I couldn't wait much longer and ended up taking 858 down :/ It's around 8:45pm.

And don't compare with 178. 178 is rather low demand, no doubt the frequency will be 20mins long. You can't expect them to waste $$.
Then if low demand, then why 178 got BSEP? And also it is the afternoon, not at night

Of course,it`s night, don`t expect the bus come in 7-8 mins as it is not peak-hours,common sense what

If you were to read carefully, I don't expect it to come in 7-8mins =.="

Incase you don't know, the BSEP don't run in the afternoon...

178 has both BSEP additions both as full day and splits.

No wonder.
Reason why it takes so long is becoz despite its long waiting time, the number of people on the ride from Yishun all the way to Punggol will have at most 35 pax only. I rode it once during 8.20pm and have countlessly seen the empty buses at Anchorvale. Once, I saw one that was LITERALLY EMPTY. Maybe due to the lack of developments at the areas 85 exclusively serve, very little people will choose 85 over 965 to get back to the northeast. And yes, this caused a domino effect on svc 85's freq too. The peak hours were better though. Though again not much, but at least I won't get fed up from waiting for a bus then.
A little advice to you: try to keep to the schedule so that you won't have to wait in agony. That's what I and a few of my other friends do when we wait for a bus with horrible frequency. Or during early morning or late night. Look at the time, know when to set out, board punctually and you won't have to warm up the bench.

Didn't see the BSEP in the afternoon :/ Only late afternoon like the 962 ones..What time are the BSEP buses?

I`m referring how many minutes I have to wait for 178 in the afternoon,it is about 17-20 mins for a bus

That time it was nearly the whole seats occupied, more than 40. Aiyo...I always tot that 85 would be better than 965/858. But kinda true.
How about 39? Also hardly anyone would choose it over 969? Then what's the point of 85/39? :/

If you do read carefully, Dear Sir, you will realise his real purpose is to propose freq add. So even if he know he will still ask for freq add.

Sorry, I'm expecting something within 12-15mins. Not over 14(or 15mins).

The last time that I waited was about 10 mins plus, Can't remember clearly.

Then don`t take Service 85 if you don`t have patience waiting for the bus then

Sometimes,178 frequency got up and down too.Sometimes 10 mins, sometime 15 mins and sometime 20 mins

85 is to serve the Sengkang East/West and Punggol residents. Unfortunately, Punggol is still under development, and so is Sengkang West. Some at Sengkang East have a choice of 965, while the others, however not much, will have to stick to 85. But then, not many people there will really return from Yishun in late night. In fact, 965's main load from Yishun to Sengkang (which of course is more than 85 by a lot more, don't believe you go see) will clear at Blk 190C, the stop where they can change to key services such as 83, 86, 88 and 161. In fact, even the residents at Punggol will rather 965 --> 82/83/136 becoz of the faster route 965 take. So that kills the Punggol load for 85 too. So not saying 85 is redundant, but only its golden age is not yet here. Which is why 85 remains at full fleet SDs and less frequent than other services like 161.
For 39 it's different. People from Pasir Ris will take 39. And different is becoz PSR residents only have 39, no choice. And nobody will take bus round and round to Tampines and take 969. And it has better frequency too. Though no DDs are needed for 39 it does need more reliable freq coz the door-jamming loads are caused by delayed buses and not by its already-okay freq.
Regarding how 85 is thought to be better than 965, I have to agree on that. 85 is thought to be better becoz of the misconception that SBS is ALWAYS better than SMRT. After all, everyone has its own good points and flaws. And for this one, I have to to give it for 965. Yes, I was also one who used to think 85 > 965.

Wow...thank god SBST doesn't have an attitude like you...
There's surely no harm adding 1 more bus like 39, I don't see why they don't...

From what I last observed, Most 178 buses always arrive early way before their scheduled arrival time especially at night.
I remember taking 178AM01/PM01 last bus and it was really way too early. It reached about 2305 (Too early for the last bus block to be honest)

Hmm definetely...but by adding 1 more bus, doesn't kill right? :o
And in that case, 39 should terminate at Pasir Ris Int then? At least there's demand there? And the trip down to Tampines already have 168/969.

Today morning at 10.09am,I was at WRI waiting for 178 bus.Damn long sia,I looked at the timings of 178 and show 10.12am.Until 10.12,the 178 bus haven`t arrive, then when I looked again, the timings now show 10.23am.At 10.27am,then finally the 178 bus arrive. I have to wait for 15 mins all together for a 178 bus in the morning?

Erm nope. But the issue here is WHEN to add the bus, so as to use it in the best way possible to benefit more people at a fewer cost. I have not heard of any complaints regarding svc 85 here. You're the first. What does this show? Most can live with the current freq. So I guess neither SBS nor LTA will really do anything for now.
As for 39's case... Hmmm... I've thought of that too. It's kinda redundant in Tampines coz there are alr svcs like 18 to cover the Tampines sectors of 39. It will do good to terminate in PSR. More convenient for PSR residents, less work for the BCs and last but not least space freed up in Tanpines int for the BSEP svcs like 4 and 20 who are still using the pathetic "berths" and blocking the people who wanna buy magazines or eat at mcdonalds. Maybe it may come true... Who knows?

I agree with you about 39 being reduncant at the tampines sectors cause from what I observed not many people take the bus from that sector. The Pasir Ris sectors where many people take 39

I'm not a frequent rider of 85. But just to express my feel over a rather longer waiting time than some trunks svc I've board. Infact, I've board it twice. And I still feel that they can shorter the waiting time by a little, and perhaps re-route for the time being if possible.
Tamp. Int quite cramp already...and if 39 were to also link to Downtown East, even better. Infact, it would be a better resource to link up PSR residents with the North area.
*Bolded : Edited words

Erm okay.
Agreed on the 39 part. Make it a resourceful service in the PSR, instead of wasting it in Tampines.
