Yeah, but SMRT said it's working...hmm~~ And yes, the bus will travel down the slope faster due to the weight and force. Further more, the bus is going down the slope, I suspect the driver could be at his 50km/h, and brake happened to failed that causes the bus to accelerate faster with the slope.
Bolded : Yeah I do feel happy too, even SBS Transit drivers driving 161/168 also overtook SMRT buses sometimes/their own bunch up buses. Infact, everyone on expressway are always speeding, taxi/cars etc. If accident occurs, only can blame ur luck liao. But still, drivers whom speed(base on I observed), does practise safety when reaching the exit, only experienced once on 2709C 161 where drivers accelerate all the way when reaching Sengkang...

So do u think smrt will publicly admit that there is brake fault ? Of course no right? They now must say the bus is ok. Then when there is the coroner hearing then we will see the real reason.

Hmmm i have not seen anywhere that said SMRT claimed that TIB605M brakes are working at the time of the accident. They said it was last checked in June 2013 and at THAT date it was working fine. So we may not know if this time the brakes are working or not. However do note that the driver also mentioned that his accelerator was jammed of some sorts, losing control of it. At 50-60km/h with max engine power and down slope, i believe the brakes will eventually burn itself out (aka brake fade).

BC kept kicking down everytime the bus moves off. Somewhere along Bukit
Timah Road the trottle was jammed wide open while the BC was kicking
down. The engine surges and gearbox kicks down all the while, pushing
the bus forward as if it's out of control.

Bus grinds to a halt immediately and a female child was screaming from
the violent force. While the bus has come to a stop, the engine was
still revving at its max. Somehow the driver managed to get back control
of the trottle. I myself was shocked as to what had just happened.

There's something more to this case..trust me...
it has been 2 weeks..the BC should have either been charged or sacked by now..
but until now still no news..
in the army, you know what the driving instructor taught us? if accelerator fail, brakes fail,
you pull the handbrakes. if the driver indeed stick to this basic protocol, and at the speed the bus going even if the brakes or accelerator fail, the handbrake if indeed used gensuinely would be damaged.
all these evidence can be found after the accident atthe site scene invesitagtion or tow back to garage for overhaul /inspection review.
if the damages are assessed not to the depth of engine and at the brake mechanism line assembly level, and if the brakes found internally dmaged not due to impact but rather wear at force speed angagement, then the driver probably telling the truth.
