Guys, came across this article. First few paras read -
"It’s becoming a regular thing. Train delays, rails faults, rail cracks, signalling system issues. The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is starting to show signs of ageing with aches and pains.
Since the major disruption in Dec 2011, the aches and pains are showing up more often, and many have blamed it on the lack of maintenance. Since then, nationalisation of public transportation has become a hot topic. The pursuit for profit has distracted SMRT Corporation, the older of the two rail operators, from its core job of providing transport, many say.
Better for Government to take back."
Waddya think? Good idea?
Should take back SMRT buses.
Come on lar, what SMRT , created by who??
Take back, no money how?
Someone need to earn the money.
@BusAnalayzer: Why take back the buses?
@Smarttech.888: So will privatisation improve the system?
SMRT's parent company is Temasek Holdings, which in turn is owned by the government.
what's there to take back?
Haha dog barking at the wrong tree..You'll think govt wanna privatise MRT?All wayang only la.

Bleeding losses, poor services. Take them more than a year to decide on high capacity buses. No decision yet.
govt should spit smrt and full take over MRT operation of both SBST & SMRT and sell alway at least 30% to 40% of share bus and taxi division to the highest offer available in the market. at present Temasek own 60% of smrt company.
I think people should at least give 3-4 years to see how the new CEO works...If NS very on, handling SMRT should be about the same?
SMRT should control the train system back and Government should TIBS should control back
the new CEO should over see bus and taxi operation only and get one old head from japan railway to over see train operation japanese way. trains interchange timing on the hour every day.
Recently I watched an SMRT corporate video dated back to 1994.
I watched miserably how all that effective and reliable train system has become a thing of the past. Just look at SMRT after it takes over TIBS. Not only cant they manage the buses well, but even their train system was falling apart. This was worsened by the CEOs getting worse by the years. The temptation in business and property investments has led to the transport company to not look like one. In fact, I would rather call the CCL a business toy more than something we Singaporeans should travel on.
It would be a brilliant idea to return SMRT buses to TIBS or pass it on to others, and restrict and subsidise the amount of flowing funds the company can use for railway construction/research/maintainence investments and other functions, such as station store leasing etc. No more child's play for SMRT. It's time to GET BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK.

Japanes trains, the super punctual ones.
I took the Chuo Line in Tokyo, works just fine. That's why I loved Japanese trains so much.
Okay. We don't want the extent to go as far. But at least no 6 minute trains with no guarantee it's not longer than 6 minutes, no breakdowns frequently, and no trains at only 40km/h. We don't need the Nikkin Kyoku.
simi take back
all along is govt one mah

Is gvmt let SMRT run. Now take back and give to another operator. And is for buses only.
no diff lah, SMRT should give out on taxis, concentrate on bus, MRT and LRT.
Actually I think it would be better if the MRT system would to be taken care under 1 operator(SMRT), and there's TIBs n SBST running for buses. The taxi wise probably Comfort Delgro/Smart/Prime etc. lorh~
I dk how true is this fengshui rumoured around people la, it's about the 2 new Casino that brings the railway system fengshui down that it keeps breaking down, up to you to believe. [I only 50/50]

Nonononono please PLEASE don't let SMRT take NEL and the NE side LRTs!!! At most just let SMRT take downtown Thomson and Eastern region and maybe take over all future lines. Reason why SBST is still fine with its train system is becoz NEL is the only MRT line they have currently that is in operation. It would be good for SBST to keep its pace, and thus should not expand too much.
Instead, SBST could think about bidding for the SMRT svcs. If that is so, SBST should try for CCK, Woodlands and Yishun. Potential areas with lots of residents there.
Govt should take back the bus and train operations of BOTH SMRT and ComfortDelgro, then rebrand them as Transitlink.
