is it because the demand for bus service in the east expected to be higher? thats why build another depot in the east rather in the west
or is it replacing BNDEP. i doubt so.
west is so dull. nothing new
Think replace BNDEP

wrong...
LTA is calling a tender today to invite contractors to submit their cost proposals to build the new bus depot. The tendering process will allow the most cost-efficient contractor to win the rights to build the depot.
The operator’s existing bus depots and bus parks are reaching full capacity. The new facility is necessary to support the higher number of buses as the overall bus capacity is progressively increased under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP).
Ok so Bndep roughly can accommodate 510 buses,Cgbp 280 now Loyang 500.1290 lots wow no more onp.LTA should built near Commonwealth to replace Arbp too.
Wenya replace Kranji I think and Amdep relocated?
I sense Eunos will go Bndep soon together with Upp East Coast,Kembangan and Bedok Svc.Tampines under Cgbp while Pasir Ris,Changi Village and Airport all go Lydep.

I hope to see AMDEP relocated. No wonder they scrapping those Lances gradually
in b4 iveco
looks like CGBP was built basic for a reason...

The land price around that area very high...
Plus you really think LTA will make 1 BUS depot there meh?
They prefer lease to those business marketing companies worldwide.
I hope it will be a multi-storey depot...but from all the info given, i highly doubt so.
In land scarce Singapore, wouldn't a multi-storey depot make more sense? Or is it the cost that is making LTA think twice?
Or is it SLBP was not as good as expected? Most Hong Kong Bus depots are multi-storey too

it's just opinion, don't have to make it sound so nasty...

I could not remember much accidents in SLBP but then, there's always SBS8900B inside BNDEP...
Also, what will BNDEP become? Will it get rebuilt or just become a new commercial estate?
Does that surprise you much given how our 2 PTOs have under-performed in service standards, especially SMRT? The QoS and the fines are really lenient in reality when you consider that our buses are still a major fail-point in the hub-spoke system (comparatively slow and not too reliable)
The govt's rhetoric is and will still be "free market".
But you can expect them to also meddle more and more in the workings of the PTOs. They can't be expected to "back-pedal" after talking so much about privatisation. But you can see that LTA is taking increasing steps to reign in many aspects of bus service provision. The most visible examples have been the central bus planning, competitive tendering of bus routes. And now, assets will be leased as well.
If you guys are curious enough, it seems that the govt is studying the "London bus model" and the "Scandinavian bus model" very intensively. Go read that up....these models hold the keys to potential improvements for our buses.
In the long term, building depot for SMRT/SBST will be better.
For the simple reason that when the lease terms come up and SMRT under-performs again, no more fine. They will just get the boot.
Also, the new Citydirect route from Jurong is unique. Fare revenue is collected by govt and the operator gets a fixed fare.
How is this "free market"?
Nope. If you guys bother to read the trends carefully it is clear: Govt is stepping away from privatising bus services.
We’re building another new bus depot off Loyang Avenue to support the expansion of the bus fleet under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). This depot will have the capacity to accommodate 500 buses. It will be equipped with facilities for bus operations, repair & maintenance, and a rest area for drivers. When completed in 2015, Loyang bus depot will be leased to SBS Transit Ltd at a nominal fee. This follows the Government’s announcement at the Committee of Supply 2012, to fund the development and land cost of bus depots and bus parking infrastructure, and lowering the entry barriers for new operators when we introduce contestability in the bus industry.
Yup, looks like my earlier assessment was right.
Govt is really not as stupid as many of you guys seem to think.

You insinuated that LTA doesn't know how to plan. That counted as a nasty opinion.
How do you expect people to take you seriously and be nice to you?

As mentioned, they said that current depots are reaching full capicity, so I don't think BNDEP will become commercial estate.
Then big depot like loyang only control a few Svc ah?Funny leh
I think LTA might allow some buses to park over at interchanges as the interchange have new gate doors at toa payoh interchange. And i think that is better as bus service operation start very early in the morning. the only thing is top up of diesel i think that can be done when bus return to deport in the afternoon.

SBST are currently practising ONP at some interchanges and terminals.
With 2 mega depots and 1 bus park in the east I don't think there's need for onp again..Onp need to pay extra rent leh

I don't think SBST will sustain their ONP...
Just hope that this new depot would not cause more traffic jams along Loyang Avenue..
