  Man who pushed woman off bus ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment

   

  A man who shoved an elderly woman and caused her to fall down the steps of a bus was ordered on Friday to undergo two years of mandatory treatment for his psychiatric conditions.

   

  In an earlier report, 25-year-old Alex Ong Kok Hao had pushed 76-year-old Madam Hwang Li Lian in the back, causing her to fall down the steps of bus service number 167 on June 5 last year.

   

  Ong then defended his actions and said that being jobless had made him depressed.

   

  He was charged in court last month with voluntarily causing hurt, which he pleaded guilty to, reports The Straits Times.

   

  Ong had been diagnosed with clinical depression since 2009, and also suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and Asperger's syndrome since primary school.

   

  Asperger's syndrome is a form of autism that makes it difficult for him to interact socially with others.

   

  Ong's lawyer, Mr Eddie Koh, told The Straits Times that the treatment order was "a good sentence" as his client will now receive consistent treatment at the Institute of Mental Health.

   

  He added that previously Ong would go for treatment "on and off".

  fortunately he isn't made to be fined.

  i could feel from his POV, since pressing the bell at the last minute can be irritating not only to the SL but also to other pax.

  at the same time from the view of the elderly pax, they are less mobile and react slower than us. Please spare a thought for them too.
