Yet when SMRT had to make a decision, it chose to buy bendies again; and still no sign of any DDs.

SBS deployed Leyland Atlantean to S178 back in 1980s… When Tibs tookover, Tibs faced a lot of complains over S178…
This article lagi best… comparing SBS’s DD deployment and Tibs’s Hino/ UD deployment…
What’s ironic was this…
SBS 178: peak 6 mins w/ double decks, off peak 10 mins
Tibs 178: peak 5 mins, off peak 13 mins. This should tells the kids… Adding more buses is useless as because of the theory of dimninishing returns…
In fact no wonder why Tibs/ SMRTB making massive losses… need to maintain such a big peak hr fleet say for 966, yet off peak fleet so small… wastage of buses during off peak idling…
SMRT reasonable use off peak bus for charter.
178 should introduce bendy bus.

either buses hogging up 4 – 5 SBS buses behind as ppl trying to board hopelessly, or fly stop for good…
857 ever hogged up 3 SBST bus during off peak hrs… cos bus full also…
SMRT 857, 966, 985.. those plying Jln Toa Payoh are very useful for people like me living nearby like toa payoh town. 966 can take me from north west like CCK or woodland town direct to Toa Payoh. And from Toa Payoh to Parkway faster than service 31 and save money. 857 and 985 can help to reduce traveling time and help to reduce crowd from MRT going north. The only problem is the waiting time and you cannot blame SMRT the timing as expressway like PIE and CTE sometime jam due to road accident.
I think one reason why TIBS never buy DD bus is because of some area only SD bus can go through and the bus service can be very crowded like service 67 etc. sill SMRT bus service should plan the route for mrt breakdown shuttle bus properly and deploy buses. It the SMRT bus old management mistake I hope the new one do a good job.
178 need dual depot control so that early morning trips can be done to cater pax towards Bukit Batok Ctrl.Problem is the fleet and run time.Drivers prone to speeding due to absurd timing.Kranji should do with 4 duties.
Until now I dun understand why 700 need dual control.

Maybe KJ is clearing up for new buses to come to KJ that why they just give buses away

Because KJ needs to free up some depot space (I assume)...
If they need free up space then 970 is the one dual control rather than 700 cause its mostly a loop svc.857 is an exception.

178 used to be one of the high demand service back in the 90s if I am not wrong. Ridership might have dropped ever since the Woodlands MRT extension opened in early 1996.
And I still remember the way SMRT treated 178's fleet back in 2006/2007. The worst fleet ever then.
Revive old Kj167.Kj can minor control 178,187,851 & 963.Let go 700 & 975 to Woodlands

975 and 178's fleets are still quite rubbish even until now... Always deploys the worst buses the depot has.

the morale of the complain is this…
you can deploy more SDs say at 5 mins back in 1984… 1 SD in those days can only carry like 50 – 60 ppl… That’s 600 – 720 lots per hr…
But using bigger capacity DDs changes the whole thing… 6 mins freq, but you can dispatch out 800 of lots per hr…
Someone can laugh… but he himself ppl say SBST area do semi express say.. only 966 is fastest…
Never mind la… SMRTB is alrdy a rotting mess even w/ army officers inside… let it rot and die..
nobody said only 966 is the fastest
