B8TL might lure SBST Interest,Save on road tax and insurance,Buy the 320hp version.Nowadays its the trend for Automobiles..Even BMW 1.6 got twin turbo producing 158hp/240nm similiar to 2.0 power rating..Even Proton has started with their first single light turbo 1.6 engine producing 140hp/205nm,Peugeot 1.6 with their PSA twin scroll turbo engine,VW famous for their twincharge(Turbo and supercharge engine even for 1200cc).
B5RLE might be too underpowered unless theres 10.5m version that carry less pax than 12m siblings. The truth is drivers nowadays care more about acceleration and mid torque power rather than top speed.Got a friend driving GTR and VW polo 1.4TSI,For city driving he prefer the 1.4 more than GTR,GTR is good for long strecht roads and highways cause the power range come from 3500 all the way to near redline while VW TSI come as early as 1700rpm..Now tell me in Sg who would always sped over 3500rpm unless you dun bother about your license?
hmmmmm...
comparing SI to CI engines?
People need to check their facts before posting here.
Volvo have released a Euro VI engine to replace both the D7 and D9 engines, called the D8. It is a 6-cylinder, 8-litre engine with EGR and SCR and is available in three outputs - 280hp/1050Nm, 320hp/1200Nm and 350hp/1400Nm.
Maybe 2014/5 then SG have SBST just spam ordered so many buses think
Their likely choose 280bhp/1050Nm variant

...Unless biodiesel operation is needed. The only biodiesel-compatible engine is the 320hp/1200Nm version.
The Volvo B8TL DD with 350hp/1600nm seems a good candidate for SMRT if they decide to buy DDs

I hope SBST can choose Enviro bodies for the new B8TL DDs.
That if they chose the Euro VI,If Euro V then B9TL again..I notice Volvo and Scania got lot in common.Just like Hyundai and Kia.
