The forest at Tampines Road has been cleared for industrail. 72's loading will go higher in the future.
That is another 4-5 years from now. And by then with DTL coming, I assume SBST will also transfer some routes via Tampines road, as so many bus routes won't be required on Bedok Reservoir Road.
But for now, I am talking about speeding the journey for commuters between Hougang and Tampines. Much needed.

They should widen Tampines Road and clear the trees and replace it with smaller trees. Like that will solve the problem of 72's slow speed.
Right. And Lornie Rd will be narrowed and somehow 74 will speed up.

It will be slowed as the road is narrower ==

It's just an alternative for people who don't want to take snail service 72
Good to do a 72E that just connects YCK Interchange to Tampines Int deploying only DDs.
New route once Tampines Road area develops: Serangoon --> Kovan --> Hougang Ave 3 --> Tampines Road --> Tampines Ave 10 --> Tampines Ave 9 --> Tampines Ave 7 --> Loyang Ave --> Pasir Ris Drive 3 --> Pasir Ris Int.
Guys I know you all hate service 72, but it has being like this for more than 11 years & no one give a shit? seriously first world problem, people whining about slow 72 & not as of service 72 is the only service which uses 1 lane roads.

since it's because of one lane roads, maybe play KPE and TPE would do it.
i mean svc 39 and 72 are just crawling like snail really...

Cannot blame, it is totally run by schedule created by the people in AMDEP. If it really very slow, people would be complaining about this long ago, or best, STOMP it
And Service 72 it cannot pile KKE & TPE, if it does, it will lose connection with those forginer workers living in a Dorm nearby, SAF people & some workers working at a building near the same bus stop as where the SAF alighted, plus some others.
Trust me I have taken Service 72 for almost whole of my life & I know it's surrounding well.
Did you know: Service 72A was once introduced in the late 90s while pile the "current" Service 72A type of route. It was withdrawn in 2006. Likely due to the case simillar to SWT 2A & etc.

I guess we'll have to tahan it then, no choice...

What is the case with Svc 2A?
I think 72 can do better by reducing some of the LP stops where no one boards / alights. Speed can be increased a bit ATLEAST.

Yeah. I dislike taking 72, and you got that right.
Something is darn wrong when you see the snaking queue at YCK and Tamp terminalafter 7+pm, and has been the case for so many years.
And something is also darn wrong when I found that taking train from Tampines to PSR => 88 to Hougang, is faster than taking 72 direct.
Thank god for distance-fare that made this switch possible.
First world problem indeed. But get this: Nobody created a thread to whine about 72. People were asked which services need improvement, and the answer is for you to see.
Ya. You took 72 all your life. Good for you. Trust me, you wasted a lot of time.
That aside, 72 is pretty ok. At least, frequency is pretty reliable. I just add a little more time for slow driving, no big deal.

Just FYI, Lornie Rd will be narrowed in the future.
I wasn't joking.
I was just being sarcastic.

I would still prefer to take 72 direct to Hougang, than taken MRT + 88. I don't think the time difference would be more than 10 minutes, but at least I can sit comfortably without changing throughout the journey.
For me, I prefer 27 than 72. I don't mind taking KUBs or Citaros, as long as its fast, can already..

27 is awesome. Can try that too. Goes straight into Hougang.
I have calculated the time of some trips, from Tampines to Hougang.
1. 72 [ Hougang -> Tampines ] *BASIC SERVICE!
NON-PEAK : 55min
PEAK : 1h 10min
2. 88 [ Hougang -> Pasir Ris ] EWL [ Pasir Ris -> Tampines ] *Popular!
NON-PEAK : 45min
PEAK : 55min
3. 27 [ Hougang -> Tampines ] *Best Choice! *Popular!
NON-PEAK : 30min
PEAK : 35min
*Time is APPROXIMATE

Plus when the bus goes full at Tampines and you're in it, the bus willl VROOM all e way till Sengkang
Who are you trying to bluff?
Oh ya, the gullible ones.
Or was that sarcasm over the use of "approximate"?

I would not take a 27 only because when it comes to Sengkang it waits at least 5 minutes at every stop, where people try to squeeze in and I hate that sight. I prefer 72 even if it takes more time and it takes 50 minutes from Hougang to Tampines (I don't know how you came up with the 1hr 10min calculation).
The guess-works are terribly off.
The train and 88 way should not exceed 35 minutes. But because of waiting times , this way can get a little longer.
72 should not exceed 40 minutes.
27 also takes 35 minutes.
1 hr is nearly enough for 72 to get from ter to ter at night!

I agree the 50 minutes for 72 is waiting time taking into account, otherwise it does not take more than 40 minutes - if the stops are reduced, you may be able to reach in 30 minutes.
27 takes upto 40 minutes during peak hours, and 88 takes 25 minutes to Pasir Ris and then taking the MRT with exchange is another 15 minutes = 40 minutes.
