SMRT's Chairman said SMRT did considered giving up operating buses, but it felt it should keep to maintain its multi model operator status for overseas expansion.
sell to SBST? still remember last time what the previous chairman/CEO say regarding the taking over of the NEL??
they keeping but dun think they put heart in operating it since it is loss making...
The CCL ridership factor is worst than NEL wo...
Should sell to SBS.
SMRT suck cock
Actually, the idea to merge many many years back is already a mistake.
Look at how TIBS and SBS managed their bus operations and how both companies operate their trains and bus operations. I think its too much to handle for them.
Honestly speaking, I really love how SBS and TIBS manage their operations as well as attending to their commuters. Now it is really =.=. So, i would think that just let SBS take over all the bus operations in Singapore, and SMRT to operate all the train lines. It will be ideal.

Under SMRT Corp, there are many wholly-owned subsidiary companies managing their respective core competencies
SMRT Buses Ltd takes care of bus operation
SMRT Trains Ltd takes care of rail operation
SMRT Light Rail takes care of Bt Panjang LRT
SMRT Taxis takes care of taxis
SMRT Automotives takes care of bus and taxi repair and maintenance
SMRT Engineering takes care of rail repair and maintenance
The same goes for ComfortDelgro
So the underperformance in bus operation has got nothing to do with the train aspects.
Be it train or bus, a duopoly is always healthier as it's in line with the objective of market liberalization. Government does not want any single player to monopolize the bus or train market.
The concept of duopoly was introduced in 1983 when Singapore Bus Service was the sole bus operator. Primarily, the objective is to introduce another player to compete with SBS.
The very same principle applies when government wanted Singapore Bus Service to rebrand itself as a multi-modal public operator SBS Transit to manage NEL in 2003
The basis is to create a market consisting of two multi-modal operators
And with market liberalisation comes "SMRT lacks buses to run train breakdown shuttles effectively" and threads like "SBST refused to help me!! - whines SMRT"

I think SBST improved on many areas already.

and these two operators report to their big boss LTA
That's why LTA comes under scrutiny for their regulatory procedures and the professors/transport analysts are pointing fingers at them
Why is SBST obligated to help SMRT if we talk about true-blue competition?
For the sake of society right?
In that case both companies are better off merged and rebranded as social business.
Might as well ask Bus Plus take over or ComfortDelgro buses lor
I am really tempted to write a thesis on the feasibility of doing such a study.
Woodlands TPT,Tong Tar and probably Bedok TPT can merge and take over SMRT buses.SMRT take over all rail business.Taxis let it be Transcab & Comfort run only.

Agree. TIBS and SBS back then is much better than SMRT and SBS Transit..
It's because they're now multi modal co running Buses,Trains and Taxis. With so many commitment things tend to go out of hand one.Last time depot Taxis cannot enter for Refuelling but now you see the cabbies treat the depot like their own HQ.Then funny thing Singtel vehicles do repairs at Wldep and Amdep.SMRT is really greedy..Know the reasons why SBST can do much improvement even though they're under ComfortDelgro? Its because they listen to public feedbacks and monitor their fleets as well. They buy newer buses yet maintain their staff bonuses. They will not hesitate to punish own staffs if the buses are not wash after Refuelling and report to any damage unlike SMRT like Bo chap like that.Wldep is getting worser.New MAN buses are super dirty even though it's less than a week service not to mention the abuse by majority SLs especially from China.
What SMRT buses need is an overhaul of its management and supervisory staffs. They need Managers like SBST one who keep monitoring of the bus fleets.Punish those SLs found not reporting condition of buses..I used to give hell out of Amdep tech last time,Tire slight bald also I report if they insist on me driving I will take their particulars and will point them if anything happens.

now it's SMRT no more doing the yaya talking...
How much 9 yrs has changed...
There's a dozen if Ex-TIBS staff resign after 1 year SMRT take over.Give extra bonus then add dozen of jobs.Last time there's at least 4 tech service bendy bus now the most 3 if they lucky.Last time bus tech only repair TIBS buses but now have to repair bus plus as well.No wonder maintenance getting slacked.Somemore import tech from Sarawak who got less experience in Euro engines..Kwang3x
SMRT should get Citaros and Citaro Gs easy to maintain!!!
SMRT where got so many problem they will get better when they buy new bus!!!
Citaros no problem eh?You technician ah?Any vehicles regardless Toyota or what if are not well maintain then you start seeing funny thing happen.Nowadays buses are more sensitive than pre 90s buses.Slight electronic faulty buses can't move.

Please don't keep spamming in sgforums just because you want SMRT to import Citaros. I think that many people will go irritated by this.

Totally agree with this point. But, only time will tell with a miracle if it will be true.. Kinda sad to see many of the O405s with dress rims being removed, exposing the other colours of the wheels...
And, if only the perm-bus system was brought back, I can tell you, many things about the current TIB and SMB buses would be better. No, I dont want to use the term SMRT Buses, it's evil. I rather just call the buses TIB and SMB.. SMRT is evil, and had evil leadership. The operations department and the HR department ought to get fired and replaced with more experienced staff...

They should have just given up... Makes our lives a hell lot better... Tired of all their shit, and horrid treatment to buses and poor drivers.
SMRT should have given up long back. From the first day here, I have already emphasize how badly they are managing their bus services. SMRT multi-modal system is a complete failure. Rail screwed up with tons of problems after years of poor maintainace and upgrade of systems. Bus screwed up with poor bus services, poorly maintained bus fleets and keeps on making losses. Cab screwed up as well, with many poor services aspects and making losses.
No point being multi-modal where non of the operations are successful. Given their heck care attitude, being arrogant, irresponsible and stingy to commuters and not its shareholders, SMRT has already lose its purpose in Singapore. Better of that Hong Kong MTR to take over SMRT rail business, SBST or Hong Kong KMB to take over their bus operations and TransCab to take over its cab business. But now since they had thought of giving up the bus business, then might as well do so. Lower your losses and divert the money to improve on its core rail business.
Just do every Singaporean a service here and the last service for Singapore buses, give up your bus operations to others. We have enough of all your nonsensical and irresponsible way and attitude of dealing with bus services for so many years.
If SMRT really wants to run bus services, then go run cross boarder services like CW services, shuttle services and private buses. Don't run public bus services because SMRT is not qualified. They are better off with just rails mainly.

SMRT buses to just close down. Seriously no point they should run anymore bus services.

Bendy buses are complex and tedious to maintain. This is something they should have let go long ago.
the SMBXXX series buses are not bad wat...
it's just the TIBXXX series buses that are worn down
the refurbished hispanos interior are as good as brand news..
in fact i would say it's better than how last time SBS refurbished their Merc0405 WA and DM and Scania L113 and Volvo Mk 2
