SBS Transit to Add 1,000 More Buses At A Cost of $433m - Close to 90% of Fleet Will Be New By 2015
By 2015, nine out of every 10 buses in SBS Transit fleet buses will be new.
The latest purchase of 1,000 new buses at a cost of $433 million will bring SBS Transit's total fleet size to about 3,400 - its largest to-date. Comprising 450 single-deck award-winning Mercedes Citaro buses and 550 double-deck Volvo B9TL Wright buses, they are scheduled for delivery from as early as January 2013. All buses are powered by Euro 5-compliant engines and will have wheelchair-friendly features.
The newest additions to the fleet are part of the Company's fleet renewal programme which started in 2006. In all, close to $1.29 billion has been spent to purchase 3,050 new buses.
Of the 1,000 new buses, 260 will be funded by the Government under the Bus Services Enhancement Programme (BSEP), while SBS Transit will fund the 740 buses under its growth and fleet replacement plans.
Ms Katherine Ho, a 38-year-old Administration Officer who takes SBS Transit Service 198 home everyday after work, is excited to learn that more new buses will be added: "It takes me about half an hour to get home from work. I'm so looking forward to spending that downtime on newer and more comfortable buses."
Said Mr Gan Juay Kiat, Chief Executive Officer of SBS Transit: "Our buses ferry more than 2.6 million commuters to work and school everyday. With the new buses, we hope we can make those journeys that little bit more comfortable for our commuters."

1100 KUBs shld hv like 350 E200, and 1000 Wrights shld hv 400 MAN Lion City DD
SMRT should wake up from their long dream if they wanna serious about bus business rather than refurbish their old O405s & Bendies..No point in this era where WAB are concerned.Just buy 300 DDs,200 Citaro Euro VI and 200 VDL SLF120.255 enough to survive.Scrap their bendies and old buses la for God sake

I believe Volvo won't keep quiet since Scania,MAN & MB start planning and product their Euro VI engine..Hope to see B9TL with 330hp and 300hp 2 axles version
450 Citaro means SMRT likely have to source for other manufacturers for buses le
Citaro again. Boring !
News say the first batch of the 550 new buses purchased under the BSEP scheme will hit the roads in September this year. Are they referring to the B9TL?
aiyoh same Citaro ah?
everytime Citaro only got 5-8 people inside, the bus captain step accelerator also neh move faster.
new bus services by LTA will be on operation by sept i wonder how it works?
In my opinion variety of buses is the best, SBS's very few WAB species seems really disappointing...
This is definately the best news this year. More Citaros and Wright B9TLs.
Now we will have 750 Citaros, which is even 50 more Mercedes Benz buses than SBST had for 700 O405s. I hope that the new Citaros will feature the new generation 3 designs. or known as Citaro C2. But I think they will still be 6.3L engines. But I hope they will provide a much better air con system.
And now we have 1000 Wright Volvo B9TLs in future. In fact, the Volvo B9TL will be the mainstream model for SBST, which is the most in SBST fleet. 1200 of them, which is even more than 1100 Scania K230UBs.
- 200 CDGE ones
- 450 current Wright batch
- 550 future Wright batch
So great that SBST continues to buy such a good bus.
for SBST.

Anyway, it’s superb news that the BCs will be able to work in such a comfortable environment and the public can enjoy the smooth rides offered by both the B9TL and Citaro. I think the newer Citaros ought to have better A/C after SBST’s feedback to Daimler-Benz.
Too early to kick in EURO VI engines, I guess. But I hope the specs purchase can change later.

I think 1100 KUBs should be 300 EURO V K270UBs, 400 Volvo B7RLEs, 400 MAN HOCL 18.240. 1000 Wright B9TLs should be 600 of them, 200 Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 and 200 MAN DDs.
E200 is too small. Not practical anymore.

Same sentiments exactly. Scrap all the bendies by lifespan expiry dates and buy DDs. But get 400 DDs instead, maybe Alexander Dennis Enviro 500, or 400, or Scania K320UDs or a MAN DD model. SDs more likely to be all MAN A22s since there is a collaboration between ST Kinetics and SMRT.

Unless SBST can bring in buses like Alexander Dennis Enviro 300 and 500, IrisBus Citelis, Volvo 7700, MAN Lion City and A39 DDs.
Anyway, it is expected since the 1990s where SBS had mainly concentrated on the big 3, Mercedes Benz, Volvo and Scania.
The Citaro is the new or old model? If its the old model maybe Mercedes got clearance sale so SBS buy more of them!
