may as well go for a NAC DD, larger capacity and more passengers can sit comfortably at the top deck.
NAC buses save energy and electricity also and don't pollute the atmosphere
depends how you define comfort
to me, comfort is not aircon...comfort is space...more sitting space more comfortable
got aircon..but still have to squeeze squeeze in tight space..also no use...movement so restricted..passengers say "excuse me?! excuse me!", still have to make way for them if obstruct them..want to sneeze and yawn also paiseh...very uncomfortable...look at the morning crowd and you will understand...squeeze until kiss the front door
MRT also
Last time because of MRT, buses have to go air con. If not, at least 99% of Singaporeans will either complain or take MRT only. Then bus will lose business. That's why bus services have to change in the 1990s to have air con buses.
Comfort is space, but how much space do we have now to be comfortable??? With the population keep on increasing every year, you see more and more traffic jams, more and more people taking buses and MRTs. More and more people squeezing into a bus than what is in the 1980s. So how to have more space if more people squeeze in the bus and you know how hot it can be when squeezing with so many people in a NAC bus??? Now is not about the bus designs but it is about how much more people are squeezing in a bus nowadays.
Please go and take bus more often.
I am also living in the era of non air con buses when young, taking all kinds of NAC buses before like Volvo B57, Mercedes Benz OF 1413 and OF1417, Leyland Victory, Albion Viking, Mercedes Benz O305, Leyland Atlanteans, etc, etc. I will surely miss the NAC as well when they are gone next year. But you have to know this, times have change. If buses don't improve, they will be neglected one day. Instead of giving such suggestions that will not change, go cherish the rides of the last 30 NAC VO 2xes instead. 10 months is very fast.

Maximum loading for citaro is 90 passengers, majority (55) still have to stand and squeeze. With a DD, these 90 passengers can all be comfortably seated and there are still surplus of seating and standing place
NAC DD passenger capacity is only about 80 to 90 passengers and they are only 10.6m long. The one you mentioned above is ADD (Air Con Double Decker), which is 12m long and can carry up to 131 passengers.
Your info is wrong.

London buses use blowers instead of air con because the weather there is not as hot as tropical Singapore.

Feeders like 800 804 etc needs them, So does services which are in high demand like 106 and 190, just to name a few. For 969 they should make one of it full day whereas for 169 3 is enough.
Now even more and more trunk services are using lesser bendies which seems that SMRT had already know the problems caused by bendies.
These services will be better off with more SDs and using DDs when SMRT buys them in future.

Yes..i agree with you...in this case, i think SMRT should upgrade the existing elevated MRT station like Tampines, Ang Mo Kio, Jurong East to aircon stations.
And the future Tuas extension stations should be aircon too!
More aircon bus interchanges also...more aircon bus stops pls...
after HDB upgrading, new idea for election carrots again upgrade HDB lobby to aircon!

No. Just stop buying bendies. They are not suitable for our roads. Not just bus bridging services, evgen normal services they already hog too much spaces along bus stops and bus lanes, bus interchanges and depots as well.Poor SMRT have to park some of their buses outside their depots just because of bendy buses. Ridiculars.
What to do???
Your govt you voted in is greedy. Always only concerned about increasing population and GDP.
You still living in the 70s and 80s??? Still think our population is still 2.8 million and weather temperatures are about 26 degrees???There are still 30 non air con double deckers and people already can't wait to get them off the roads.
But not me...
Ha, you are a bit too harsh on this. But you certainly made some points valid here.
But then no need SMRT to close down. I think this is the best time that SMRT should improve their bus services, by: stop buying bendy buses and switch to double deckers. I firmly believe that switching to double deckers, SMRT bus operations will definately be much smoother and better than now, with lesser jams and queues and more space to park more buses, which in turn, better frequencies for their services.
Meanwhile, just let the bendy buses serve their 17 years lifespan till scrap and no more of these dreadful buses.
The SMRT Ah Kong still want to destroy the bus services???
Want to be different, then get Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 or Scania K320UDs with Gemilang body (like to SBST one), look so modern or even MAN.
Or get 10.6m DDs, like Enviro 400 or Scania OminiCity or Borismaster.
If SMRT really wants buy double deckers and improve their bus services and bus fleet, then do it and prove it to everyone. Else it is just empty talk and back to square one on their world class lousy services.
Actually SMRT should consider having both DD and bendies.
DD for services like 190 where it would help alot to prevent unnecessary jams along its route esp during peak hr.
Bendies should continue to serve. Especially on 67/960 etc where certain stretch can't cope with DD. Spamming rigids won't really help.

SMRT is considering converting their fleet to full single decker fleet to improve bus frequencies in future, as they want to fully utilise their resources and space in depots for more buses. So bendy bus will at most serve till their lifetime expiry and no more of bendy buses. Services like 67, 190 and 960 won't need bendy bus once DTL is up in a few years, so at most full single deckers fleet is sufficient.
As for double deckers, I don't know.

There are new fans installed in the existing elevated MRT Stations...
SMRT should just scrap all their bendies in 2 years time.Buy 300 DDs and 450 more SDs if they're serious about buses. Its just wasted to refurbish those old non WAB buses.O405s are ardy 17 years and the return of investment they ardy get eons ago.Why bother to refurbish those old buses when LTA implemented WAB?

The last batch of bendy buses have 5 years to go. Scrap all of them now is quite a waste. Just scrap them batch by batch. If SMRT is really serious about double deckers, they should buy them by early next year to replace the batch 1 MK1 bendy buses. And scrap and replace progressively batch by batch.
Given by their heck care and arrogant attitute, god knows when.
Think MK1 & 2 have to first. You know how many buses can park @ Kjdep if there are no Bendies? At least there's no need for BBT onp.Only CCK do onp due to 190 fleets..

I don't know, because I don't really care. Their planning is messy, disorganised and terrible. Buses even have to park overnight in bus interchanges where depots are meant to park them.
It show how terrible their management of operations is.
The legacy of Trans-Island Buses.
Firstly AMDEP should move to bigger depot eons ago. They should venture around Changi area..WLDEP can handle Yishun service.KJDEP should relocated somewhere in between Bukit Batok.Lastly sold their bendies to other countries which need them and replace with 300 DDs and buy more SDs to improve frequencies.RWS should give to SBST or other contractors.Lastly introduced a trunk svc from Wld,Sbw and Bpj to loop at Ikea Tampines hence can scrap those Ikea shuttle

Changi is too far. Ang Mo Kio is good enough.
I missed the times when SBS had this subsidiary, SBS Leisure. It will be great that SBST sets up a new SBSL again and take over all the RWS and other shuttle services from SMRT. And get a fleet of 50 brand new Volvo B7RLEs for these services.
Changi South good for Tampines,Bedok,Lor 1 and City services bro.

You piece of shit. Did I need your comment?
SBS and SBSL operates so differently from each other. SBS still provides good bus services despite SBS Leisure presence.

Pointless for just a few services only.
I just read the COI report.
Given LTA way of doing things, they are already planning and hinting SMRT what to improve in future.
However if SMRT is still persisitant in its own ways and old ways of management, and continues to use bendy buses, then so be it. It is a matter of time that more problems on its bus business will surface in future, which eventually at a state that will make SMRT have no choice but to give up its bus operations.
The recent spite of rail breakdown incidents and countless of complains about SMRT buses and cabs have shown that the old mangement have totally failed to bring SMRT to provide a basic decent business for all these years and result cans of worms to be opened again and again. Unless SMRT do away the old style of mangement and thinking, else this company won't survive for long and better off close down.

Full SD fleet??? Serious ah???
At least get some double deckers...
That's why they're in dilemma. Its like their arrogant attitudes thinking "Want to buy ADD 3 axles wait SBS think we copy them,Aiya buy 2 axles must find 11.4m with higher output engines,Everything must be first leh,WTF!"Just buy ADD 3 x lah no need to think twice SBST ardy prove liao.

Wah lao... What kind of thinking??? So shitty, no wonder now SMRT have so many problems.
What is wrong with copying??? Last time TIBS also copy SBS buy O405s, and Scania L113. Then recently SMRT also copy SBST using orange EDS, front EDS service number shift all the way to the left from right, SBST style; rear EDS of MAN buses also copy SBST, put on the left; ticket dispenser design and bus stopping chime also copy SBST.
Just be objective and solve the problem la.
Their old staffs always wanna be diff from SBST but nvr think of their limited resources and logistic.Budget is low although KPI is met.Suggest them lease the front empty land in front of Amdep also need to think twice,Waste fuel and time park Sembawang for what?Might as well 882 give Wldep and 980 majority Wldep.Instead of buying DDs they chose to refurbish the O405s then after 2 years got problem redeployment and space in depots etc..If they really serious bout bus business then do the essential things lar.For the past 4 years during WAB era only 134 OCs,51 Citaros and 200 NL323s?My God they should have at least 550 WABs By now!
