Agree! Now, the livery looks boring. All buses have the same kind.
SBS997A, SBS998Y and SBS999U also have different livery..
BTW, Double-Decker buses have served Singapore for 35 years!
On June 13 1977, SBS launched their first double deckers with 20 Leyland Atlanteans at Tampines Way Terminal. 8 were bodied by Metal Sections and the rest by British Aluminium Company (BACo). They were put on route 86, a semi-express service which went to Shenton Way.

I want SMRT use MAN double decker bendy!!
35 years WOW, I remember I take 159 old Leyland Atlanteans to AMK during chinese new year full of people need to go to deport to change coins box. some of those DD buses had manual gear box. 140 also had old leyland atlanteans but the best was that it the first service to have a conductor on board using DD bus.

Good to read these stories of olden days - the golden era of Singapore buses, when you had multiple buses connecting HDB to another destination without changing at an interchange.
There is no 140 also anymore. And at one time it was a DD

There is no MAN DD bendy. The only Double Decker bendy bus ever made is the Neoplan Jumbocruiser which is a coach.

I guess SMB228X is referring to the MAN Lion City DD and the MAN Lion City G.

The Leyland Atlantean with BACO body looks kinda ugly compared to the Metal Sections and the Duple Metsec bodies lol
The Olympian Demo really looked British IMO. This bus is now a dedicated Park And Ride Bus operated by City Of Oxford:

I hate it when SBST deploys SD on route 2 and 133 during evening peak. The DDs are full to the brim, with SDs it gets so uncomfortable + many passengers have to be left outside. SD schedule should be such that it is between 10 am and 4pm and may be after 7.30pm again.
I saw a DD on 90 completely empty at Jalan Toa Payoh. Was wondering whether it is a waste of resources, or does the bus get full ahead on MacPherson / Airport Road?

depends on which trip you are talking about. different trips get different loading levels at different sectors of the route.

The time was 5.30pm in the evening on Jalan Toa Payoh. Direction was towards Airport road. What is the high loading area on this route?

opposite direction. the key reason why DDs were needed is for AM Peak.
Nice old double decker pictures...
Miss them a lot.

Only front engine DD bus in singapore Volvo B55 it sound like the very old volvo SD B57 bus, the only thing it change gear like the Leyland Atlantean Alexander L. Very warm in front big engine I wnonder how the driver can take it. I remember I took it before it from service 65. before it gone.
The service improvement talk about introduction of DDs on 90 and 109 for the first time. My questions is whether the loading on these routes is so high that SBS took notice of it over other routes such as 2, 133, 242, 334 that should need more DDs.
