It is simple actually. The sequence for letters is A,Y,U,S,P,L,J,G,D,B,Z,X,T,R,M,K,H,E,C and back to A. SMB387U because after 387 is 388S. So just follow the letter sequence, u will understand. That how i memorized them

How to calculate for SMB plate?
Download an app from AppStore called Singapore Number Plates.
It allows you to calculate any kind of plate suffixes.
Just use the Suffix calculator,
Key in "SMB" in the prefix box,
And type any random 4, 3, 2 or 1 digit number at the number box
And then press "Get Suffix".
That is how I got SBS5756X.
Thanks for the replies on the rego plates!

Addtional notes:
In tens, for example SMB389 to SMB390, it is 'SMB390J' instead of 'SMB390L', skip 1 letter.
In hundreds, for example SBS3199 to SBS3200, skip 8 letters and you get SBS3200X
In thousands, for example TIB999 to TIB1000, it's the same and you get TIB999B and TIB1000B

Or you could use our tool, which can assist in calculating registration plate checksums for SBS/TIB/SMB buses. This is developed by one of our Singaporean colleague.
SG Bus Registration and Checksum Validator
And yes this is our first post, we are a research group specializing in public transit (transportation) matters to help operators around the world to do their job - serving the public, better.
Our next topic would be to look at the fare variance and time to travel between different modes of transportation in Singapore, especially between premium services and trains.
Do drop us a message if you have any suggestions!

nice where to purchase one?
I wonder why are they changing the wiper arms of the EEV scanias, the way the arms on each scania look so weird compared to the original ones, and also they bend to the wrong angle some too high, some too low until flat.
Was there ever a bus registered under SBS9700E to SBS9799X?

Years back, when I wasn't even 10 years old(around 2003 - 2004, cant remember exact year), I remember I saw a news article of a VO3X B1 caught fire and the rear was torn from the main body. Anyone can comfirm which bus is it and enlighten me with the details?
