  dun forget that Temasek is still the majority owner of SBS and SMRT.

  it could be that if they are to buy buses, probably fare will need to increase very shortly after the purchase. but then fret not, cos when it comes to paying out dividends, SBS and SMRT will pay it back to Temasek.

  I think this is an overstatement from this minister. If operators have to fold up if they cannt cope, then stop increasing the population. I don't think SBST will fold up if it continues to run properly. As for SMRT, fold up will be better. We don't have to suffer under their substandard service standards anymore. They just have to concentrate on rail operations. Bus operations give to SBST, cab operations give to Transcab.
