Will it succeed in shortening the dwell time of bendy buses at the bus stops? especially bus interchanges like woodlands and yishun in particular
In doing that you can maximise the use of 3 passages of entry and quicken the process of passenger loading
Of course you will need to recruit more bus attendances stationed at every door to ensure every boarding passengers tap their card
Just like how Sv160/170 are currently practising at the Woodlands custom to alleviate the incidents of bus bunching
This will almost be like the BRT or train
Woodlands CIQ is not intended to be a bus stop in the first place.
It's meant for reboarding purposes only.
But since there's no more walking into JB, those who took 856, 911 & 913 from Woodlands have no choice but to take bus across.

uh huh
eating your own words...
Go check LTA's tender webbie and find who owns and obliged to build the new bus parks...
Much as 2601 say of feeding the trolls, sometimes it's not for trolls to start sprouting nonsense around causing unecessary confusion and later accusing that why SBST or SMRT have to pay to LTA for usage of depot...

With the first world salary paid to our transport ministers and CEOs, naturally our expectations on these infrastructures and facilities has to be first class
We are a very time-sensitive country, time is money
We expect tip-top performance by these facilities, nothing less
Any minor glitches and imperfection or even a 10 minutes train/bus delay is strictly not acceptable and intolerable in Singapore
They cannot blame us for the stringent expectations and demands placed on the transport infrastructures
They have only themselves to blame for carving out Singapore to be a first world nation with first world infrastructure and first world leadership
Pls don't compare the buses/trains in sg with that of developing countries
so 800 more buses for SBS and SMRT must be Citaro and Citaro G!! The best or nothing!!!!!

.
it's a busy and hectic boarding berth especially during weekends, just like those in woodlands regional interchange during peak hours
Notice the sense of urgency and how hastily the bus attendances get in marshalling passengers to board 160 and 170 quickly from both entrance and exit doors so that the buses can depart the moment it's fully loaded..
Any delays and the bus queue can easily build up and tailback, 170X arrives at every 1-2 min interval during weekends
Maybe SMRTB can adopt this tactic also at Woodlands Regional Int during peak hours on bendy buses? The long queue formed up by republic poly students boarding 169 and 902....it can take up to 5 minutes to fully load up one bendy
Frankly speaking, bendies work best on short trips like 170X

Of course ma.. The 160 & 170 still got local leg to serve leh..
At least it's way better than say last year alrdy, buses at least all have some movement.
170X depends la, but avg freq is 5 - 7 mins.
anyway, 160 & 170 can be badly delayed in headways these days, esp the lorry loading issue

No bendies is allowed to go into Johor Bahru for unknown reasons.
There will be Chaos if bendies are allowed on JB svc. Then you will see 170 using DDs too
Bendies more suitable for short trips / feeder / townlink to ferry high volume of passengers travelling for short distance during peak hours
Average travelling time not exceeding 15 minutes
Concept of bendies is more pro-standing
Short and high-demand routes like 95, 96, 179, 199, 225, 241, 291 are better off using articulated buses than DDs
DDs more suitable for long trips especially expressway buses like 161, 168, 190, 960, 969 where average travelling time takes more than 15 minutes
Concept of DDs more pro-sitting and sleeping for longer periods
Imagine u stand and squeeze in a bendy 969 all the way from Yishun to Tampines

I still feel fine with a 969 on bendy. They have enough bendies to play as split, with some occasional full day ones.
179 cannot use bendies
NTU's bus stop and road design can't allow too much length related hindrance.
in short, both DDs & bendies have their pros & cons
For all info, all BENDY buses have disappeared from london's roads...
The high capacity services, 12,29,73 have all being converted to DDs... WEG IIs 2 axle...
ACx

London =/= SG.
I don't mean harsh, But I don't have to tell why either. If you want reasons I can give you.

Our road, bus stops literally traces back to British roots

stringent maintenance still plays a very impt part cause no matter how good the bus is, maintenance is still needed
When it comes to expressway, I can safely say nothing comes close to a very special group of only around 10-15 B10Ms.
Those 4-speed Voith MKIVs are optimised for zipping around at 60-70km/h. I believe they are also using uprated THD101 engines as well. A bit more horsepower but a little less torque also.
I am sorry that they will be leaving us soon.
Frankly B10Ms,VOs and DTs are more suitable plying expressways due to tyre sizes and engine rating. If not for the speed restrictor i guess you see many of these buses kena camera by LTA ardy.Ive used to drive a MKIII on 34 with speed of over 70 overtaking many heavy vehicles
I just took 893R this morning.
I reaffirm my my love for these B10Ms.
Its so smooth and quiet on the expressway once the 2nd overdrive starts...the engine actually purrs!
But then besides replacing the fabric AC covers with the red ones, they still never bothered fixing its electrical faults. The BUS STOPPING doesnt light up when you press the bell, and lights up only after you leave the bus. Its been like that for years already!
The B10Ms is a versatile chassis. Can use for coaches too and explains why it's smooth on highways.

Most likely most of the Volvo B10M Mark IVs will stay.
