There is always a first time..in the past we never expected SMRTB to operate a bus service into JB
anyway bendies should pose no notable problem in feeder routes in yishun woodlands and cck
Though by saying this it might offend someone but I still have to say this.
Bendies can also be used on Bukit Batok and Bukit Panjang feeder services, but why do you guys see no perm bendies on these services and only cameos? That's because the demand of the services is average, the cameos were for breakdown replacements, only when a bus breakdown it can cause more people to start waiting at the bus stops, causing the demand to increase (for a short while, everyone wants to get to their destination at the same time, not wanting to be left at the bus stop and waiting for another bus continuously like the case above).
Bendies are purchased to suit the right demand, not using as a wastable resource. If a service's demands grow, then when the time bendies are gone and the service itself cannot use DDs for example (like the case of service 172) or when the companies refuse to buy DDs, can rigids help? This seems to be like a person is waiting at a bus stop and was unable to board two buses doing a same service just because the bus is totally packed, and having to find alternatives troublesomely, causing unwanted trouble and even problems. This is just like buying bendies recently just before the ban was issued, causing the bendies to be wasted intentionally, can this be really accepted?
I just hope some people will consider the facts by passing this message around, but the decision I will respect the companies & authorities'. If there are any mistakes, feel free to correct me.
Could it be that LTA wants to limit the quota of bendies? Just a speculation..
Already there are about 300 bendies on the roads today and LTA feels that it's enough since they are categorized as long vehicles and there is a need to cap them to a certain limit
If i'm not wrong, there is a quota to the number of towheads with trailers allowable on the roads
if long vehicles are left un-capped and introduced at will, we will be seeing a more severe tailback of trailers at the extreme left lane of AYE during peak hours

Actually I believe SMRT only put bendies on services with demands only.
My views on bendies
Cons
From land authority point of view, it takes up too much road space, as it is equivalent to almost 3 car length
From driver’s point of view, it’s difficult and more dangerous to reverse
Pros
From operator point of view, it is more cost effective in terms of manufacturing, maintenance, refurbishing
Caters well for future installation of devices such as CCTV and broadcasting speakers
From commuters point of view, it is a boon for passengers, especially senior citizens who dread stairways and heights
It’s safer and more convenient and faster in terms of passengers offloading because there are two passage of exits.
Bendies have higher loading capacity when compared to double-deckered. This is due to the fact that double-deckered buses can only accommodate seated passengers at the upper deck.
Nevertheless, many commuters are aware that the concept of bendies is to pack as many standing passengers into the rear segment of the buses and from commuters’ perspective, they may not welcome the idea of being encouraged to stand in the buses.
Therefore, bendies are only useful for short hauled and feeder trips
Seriously, more places can use ADD, even say some of those places that I mentioned before, most can have the trees pruned.
It's only those few places i.e. Henderson Rd, Depot Rd, Airport PTB, Lor Chuan... Then we just step up the bus freq, anyway in many cases like 195, they've to be frequent enough as they're MRT feeders.
Love the way they are~~~!

but same for DD they burn more fuel!! Citaro still best!!!

and 195 use Citaros so Citaro G bendy still needed or just buy 800 Citaros!!

Am I talking mainly about double-decks now???

for others. I agree with u that post about bendy
195 can use Citaro, what has it to do w/ Citaro G?
Eh... Where to park the bendies at night?
Anyway, notice that some bus stop bays are slowly sinking, and ironically I realise many of these places tend to have high volume of bendies plying...
Dunno why.

Citaro G can carry more people on busy service!
Originally posted by SMB228X:Citaro G can carry more people on busy service!
Citaro G 18m carry 120 ppl.
B9TL 12m carry 125 ppl...
A big bus stop say 36m long, 3x ADD carry 375 ppl... Same length 2x bendy 240 ppl... seats wise, ADD has abt 270 seats, bendies only 120 seats...
Say Orchard Rd 20 bus svs on avg is 8 mins bus freq, so there's like 150 trips per hour... Bendies need 75 cycle, ADD need 50 cycle...
Think about it..
I wonder what's going to happen sia..
Long queue of buses blocking the road at C K Tang & Lucky Plaza bus stop.. These are worst, it's only just nice for 12m buses actually..
The 3rd door how ppl exit fast?
Somemore Pending Rd bus stop.. Another good case...
Give 1x 960 Habit, 1x 963 Habit, 1x 184 Habit... No need to move le..
I didn't know the BIS gang like to create traffic jam for everyone sia...
Now I know why 67 & 961 SL love to overtake as they wish w/o regard for looking out.. 'To help each other'...
Cos their own bendy buses are a pain in e ass along Upp Bt Timah Rd as the bus stops aren't even meant for bendies..
Bendy bus = longer wait for buses as all anyhow skip bus stop.
Anyway..
1135 is alrdy buang...
Whenever the bus plies through unlevel road surface or bends, the articulator would squeek and vibrate very badly...

you see ar...
Especially the CBD rts, you're not going to see savings w/ the additional door... In the morning, Blk 270 BPJ bus stop is mostly ppl boarding, CBD mosly alighting. The situation is reversed at night.
Somewhere is going to suffer the problem caused by the length of bendies.
Bendies and ADD ironically share similiar capacity.
Feeder is better used by bendies, but there's a limit.. Say 1 or 2 feeder still ok, but say like a bigger New Town like Woodlands, literally 9 feeders.

For this case, LTA will not require SMRTB to ban their bendies
They will only request that SMRTB scheduling their buses properly to minimize the incidents of 3 bendy bunching at the same bus stop

Let's see
There's 171, 184, 700, 960, 963, 966
171 is 10 mins freq, 184 6.5 mins (avg it la), 700 6 mins, 963 7 mins, 966 8 mins..
Total abt 41 trips per hr..
How much can you schedule esp it's a bus - bus transfer stop as well?

Huh? Are you sure a double-deck have 270 seats?
How many double-decks are you referring to? Be clear.

Without the correct choice of buses, nobody will be able to board a normal 12m rigid bus because every bus on that service will be packed when they comes.
