I think government should open up the bus sector for other better bus company to run the system.
Why Japan and not Europe?

Then I ask you.. What you going to do during off peak hrs? Our peak hr is too peakish seriously, and too concentrated in the CBD
That's why Paya Lebar, Jurong East, Changi are looked for office devt.
Open up... Eh, the Changi Airport bus svs were at first runned by private bus company until they gave up and SBS tookover and renumbered as 24, 57, 149 in 1983.
I suspect that TIBS brought bandy buses, they might had this idea of a BRT Bus rapid System. service 700 was a experiment for such idea. but it was not working well some how. maybe SMRT to give it a try again with the help of LTA by having a full day bus lane on the route where the bus service travel every day even on weekend or public holidays. traffic light juction along the way has to give way to such service.

Ask LKY lor , but i think this got to be japan is an asian country nearby and they are will know for it punctual. I been to japan before, waiting for a public bus service, no stress in the city tokyo as the timing indicate on the bus stop display is very acurate. 15 min arrive mean 15 min. Tested many time as the bus stop is near my hotel.
Over in other places, if the bus is early the bus would have to wait at the bus stop..
What about here? People would end up complaining say bla bla bla...
things has its 2 sided view..

this is nothing to do with peak or non peak hour it about transport managment by the both transport compaies. Timing is important whether it is peak or not. by the way 24,57 and 149 was or is sbs service number. and service 24 and 149 had Private bus operater operated as schame B bus service before. there was no 57 for airport service. LTA remove the all schame B bus serivce after MRT started to operate. this was a big mistake by LTA. As LTA don't like MRT to lost money.

My opinion is that not all services here in SG need to be punctual and stick exactly on schedule. If the bus arrives only every 15mins, then yes it would be important for it to stay on schedule as missing it would mean to wait for 14mins.
However if you talk about services that run frequently, lets say 10mins and below, being punctual might not be of so great importance anymore. What matters for such services is to ensure buses stick to its frequency to ensure theres no sudden spike in passenger loads that can cause bunching. If one of the bus is particularly full (due to whatever reasons), then the bus before should to made to slow down slightly and the bus after should be made to speed up slightly to even out the loading on full bus. This can all be already achieved on sbsts avms with the beeping. Because afterall, the average waiting time for a bus would be 5 mins if frequency is maintained.

There was
727, 737, 747, 757, 767.
Eh.. They gave up within 2 years after Changi Airport opened, what has the MRT to do w/ it? It's more because they ended up having to upkeep so many buses to cover the long distance. Dun forget the housing demograph in those days...
Nearest new town would been Bedok.
Eh.. So seriously what are you going to do w/ the buses during the off peak hrs? That's why whatever possible should be using ADDs.

Our roads and infrastructure can't support such kind of buses anyway. Sooner or later they will have to be removed from our roads to prevent long bus queues and heavy jams in bus interchanges and depots, especially 800 more buses in future.
He has not even acknowledged that pic is edited...
Japan motorist is not the same as ours,We are more selfish.Thats why both co give a 3 mins lenient. If u drive every bus stop punctual then I should salute u Liao especially in stressful roads like SG

Is there any demand for 116 during its trial? These has resulted in major duplications.
Have to add on to this, in EUROPE there are dedicated bus lanes for buses.
Even the bus comes frequently eg.TfL10, 73, comes ev 5 mins but nev bunch up because there are dedicated bus lanes unless a serious jam occurs then the trouble comes...
Cross over to salzburg, rt.25 uses a ultra long MAN bus[not bendy] frequency is 20mins and the bus comes punctually
It actually depends on the city you are in and the infrastructure...
Vienna has dedicated trams to cater to public transport ...
SG has dedicated roads not to public buses but to the local driving public which explains why public buses are ALWAYS not on time...

singapore should has both system MRT and BRT system. LRT system is a flop waste too much money. LTA make all bus lane full day even in the weekends and public holiday. LTA can use camera to help out in enforcement. Also have full day bus lane at road link to bus interchanges. if people think bandies bus is too long on the road maybe SMRT and SBS just buy 800 normal SD buses and run on the road. As long as the timing is on time no complain.
Hindsight is always 6/6.
I dont like SMRT.
But by implying that I would have forseen that this much woes would befall as the years went by would be over my head.
Now I found out how come the SMRT box bendy refurbished, the rubber cover look so glossy..
They used some PVC or cloth tape to paste...
Now it's falling apart...

Which rubber cover are you talking about? Anyway, the air-con panels and so on are spray-painted.

what rubbish cover?
Do take a ride and figure it out.. Macham tape peeling off
And always I find it strange...
Whenever anyone here talk abt maintenance of SMRT buses, some clones will start appearing once in a bluemoon...
