As of today, EDS of some buses on 27, 34 was seen wif this:
PUNGGOL
>CHANGI AIRPORT (LOOP) 34
Some buses on 24 and 53 were een wif old EDS too.
Gd job SBS...
Btw, whats the rationale for them to switch it to the new ugly ones?
probably to test a new format? but it loops between (starting destination), Changi Airport, Loop Service and is probably (as expected) confusing to other commuters who don't regularly take those services and don't know which direction the service is heading towards, hence the current update of > Changi Airport (Loop) and probably there's a > (starting destination).
But the format that shows (starting destination), Changi Airport, Loop Service is quite nice, though confusing.
Saw one service 24 Euro 4 K230UB still having the former EDS format. Didn't see the rego though.
Citaros are not installed with the new EDS BTW
That is as of today, soon will be installed with the regular ones too.
Excellent. The current LOOP SERVICE ones are pretty uninformative and ugly.
It's not exactly reverting back to the initial EDS format of the Airport services, because the latest version doesn't scroll at all. The first version was able to scroll to show stuffs like >Pasir Ris Drive 1 / > Boundary Road etc. (the earliest version where all the major roads it passes by are listed)
The Euro IV's version of the latest EDS format has unbolded EDS service numbers (the super thin ones) btw. 8162P 8164J 8252M all have the new formats, but unbolded EDS numbers.
53's Citaros all have the new EDS AFAIK today, except for 6012C which is still using the Changi Airport - Loop Service - Bishan format.
To be honest, this latest version is better looking than the previous update that showed only destination each time.

Yeah thats what i wanted to post earlier on.Saw a svc 34 euro 4 kub just now and its EDS format had changed but wasnt scrolling at all to show the road names. And like u said, the font was damn thin.I think if everyone remembers very clearly, wasnt this the very very 1st format used on the kubs when they came out new new on 2007 where they only showed both sides of the route but didnt scroll showing all the road names in detail??

This time uh, they didn't even show both sides of the route. It forever displays:
'Bishan
>Changi Airport (Loop)', even when returning from Changi Airport towards Bishan. Is that the same as back in 2007? I don't think so leh.
Sv 99's format. lol

Anyway I correct my post abit cause I just recalled, 8252M's EDS details is the latest one but with bolded numbers. 8144S is the one i saw on 34 that has the latest EDS and unbolded numbers.
For those who haven't spotted it, the width of the unbolded numbers is as thin as the super-thin rear EDS numbers you see on your Euro IV KUBs' rear EDS.
Folks,
This is the clearest EDS to date, most informative BUT sv36 is forver
running desto
> Changi Airport
Totalli misleading if you see it at Penang Rd
ACx

Hmm about that i am not really sure.I think back then in 2007,the EDS changed when the bus was heading in the opposite side.I maybe wrong,so it would be really better if someone with an even more better memory could correct us.

No no bro you see uh, previously in 2007, Changi Airport was still an official terminating point remember? 2 terminating points, CGA & Bishan/Punggol/Hougang/AMK. That's why the BCs have to switch the EDS' direction shown at CGA.
But then now, all the affected Airport services are officially recognised as loop services remember? I.e, CGA no longer recognised as an official terminating point. When you are looping, switch what direction eh?
Infact the way how the EDS displays information is not that user friendly.
The very old style 9888 EDS is pretty informative.
The EDS should flash in like this: (e.g 147)
Slide 1: (Fill both lines of EDS)
147 CLEMENTI INT
Slide 2: (The current small 2 lines of EDS)
147 > *animates the road*
> CLEMENTI INT
In fact i feel the current 2nd line > Clementi Int is quite pointless. it should animate like the SMRT ones.

When you are looping, does your bus not go in the opposite direction? So 858 should still display Changi Airport while heading to woodlands? And 857 should display Suntec City while heading towards yishun?
Good thing they changed it back, otherwise it just confuses people who are unsure of the direction of the stop.
Some of 53 Citaros are still using the updated format...
As Of today buses on 24 is still using old EDS (big font one).

LOL, I agree with what you are saying, but heck, I'm not the one incharge of programming in the details for the EDS.

I believe the old format one for 24 which 'SBS128B' is talking about is the:
Ang Mo Kio 24
Changi Airport 24
Loop Service 24
that version. Not the version with all the arterial roads it passes by listed.
Originally posted by SBS1869E:Excellent. The current LOOP SERVICE ones are pretty uninformative and ugly.
Agreed. With the new EDS Route Displays that shows a fixed:
PUNGGOL
> CHANGI AIRPORT (LOOP) 24
is defintely better than PUNGGOL, CHANGI AIRPORT, LOOP SERVICE which is confusing - there's only one start point now, looping at Changi Airport.
The side EDS still has the roads that the bus passes by, so it's not that bad of an implementation..
Hope that this can be used for all the Loop Services, where now is rather confusing as regardless whichever direction, it only shows that same destination..
