SINGAPORE : The Malacca Bus Terminal, situated at at the junction of Kallang Bahru and Lavender Street, will cease operations on February 1 this year to facilitate the construction of the Downtown Line 3.
This means that three bus companies providing long haul bus services to Malaysia and Thailand will have to operate from different places.
They were informed of the impending closure in June 2011.
While
the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has identified a replacement
site for the heavy vehicle park at the junction of Lavender and
Bendeemer Road, bus operators are unhappy with this new location and
have sent appeals to URA.
Elson Yap, president of the Express Bus
Agencies Association, said: "This place is also temporary and
passengers aren't allowed to alight and drop off. There are no ticketing
facilities and washrooms. We have appealed for a new site but there is
no reply so far. The authorities have to look for a new place as the new
one is not appropriate."
