SINGAPORE: More people are commuting by bus, as ridership grew by 16 per cent from 2.9 million a day in 2007, to 3.45 million per day in 2011.
But it also means that buses are moving slower.
Minister of State
for Transport Josephine Teo, who provided this update in parliament on
Tuesday, said measures like full-day bus lane extensions have helped
improve journey speeds along heavily-used areas by seven per cent on
average.
Another possible measure is to cross-train more bus drivers.
She
said: "Each driver, perhaps being just familiar with their own route
that they drive on a regular basis, is also familiar with several other
routes. This measure obviously takes time to implement because there are
so many drivers and apart from their usual duties, you've got to find
the capacity for them to also be extracted from their regular service in
order to go for the training."

Actually sometimes, I rather they move slower for safety than drive at some crazy speed where everyone be seemed to be rollercoastering on the bus. -_-
Of course slower lah...
Bus pax increase, more ppl mean more load on bus mah... -.-"
simple solution. Remove some traffic lights on straight roads.
There are too many pedestrian crossings around, impeding the smooth flow of traffic. And some are amazingly pointless.
E.g. At AMK hub, there is this overhead bridge with escalators on both sides, yet still have a pedestrian crossing running directly below it. This totally defeats the purpose of constructing the bridge.
Will parts of the bus start falling off soon like the mrt?

No worries, they still have lots of cable ties leftover.

I heave a sigh of relief.
the amk hub one was supposed to have been removed when the POB is in operation. Do a pedestrian count on this crossing and you will realise the number of senior citizens crossing the road.Originally posted by deathmaster:simple solution. Remove some traffic lights on straight roads.

Do you think sbst can make more money other than depending on commuter numbers?
