I expected this to happen. LOL. No point staying with a MAN rego dude. Change it to a Citaro's since you like them so much. Marry yourself to a Citaro.

Seems like no one posted about this article about SBST buying another batch of 1000 buses? It's just in.
"Delivery from as early as Jan 2013"..."comprising 450 award-winning Mercedes Citaro buses and 550 Volvo B9TL Wright buses.."
"Of the 1000 new buses, 260 will be funded by the Government under the Bus Services Enhancement Programme (BSEP), while SBS Transit will fund the (other) 740 buses under its growth and replacement plans."This article means:
1) King Longs are not bought by the Govt for SBST after all, so probably the ones we're seeing is just a trial that was rejected by SBST totally?
2) Depends on whether you like Citaros or hate it, there's gonna be more Citaros. Damn. I expect more flamewars here now..
3) The case of more Wrights mirrors the scenario of the VO3xs Batch 1/2/3s in the 90s..except their bodies all look the same. I don't expect them to change their EDS any further to differentiate the different batches as of now..
I am really happy about this purchase. At least they are really buying some decent buses now.

Most likely predicted since the 1990s. These 3 brands will dominate SBST fleet for long, Mercedes Benz, Volvo and Scania.

I thought now the expansion of the fleet goes up to 3400 buses...
Unless SBST wants to expand the fleet to 4000 buses. But I hope next round they can buy about 400 Alexander Dennis Enviro 500 and 200 IrisBus Citelis.

Wait till you see SMRT. Maybe full MAN fleet.
if it's to 3400 buses
likely 260/ 120.
So i guess the 550 wrights will be after 3269Z? And the Citaro would be after 6299S?
Originally posted by SBS 9631X:Yeah, the Citaros should be replacing the Mk4s across all 3 batches cause their lifespans whether extended or not ends around 2015..
non-extended mk4s will end in 2016, 2018 if extended.

Hmm, but where does that leave the tender for like the 30+ Mk4s they posted in the Classifieds that day? Even if they haven't sold the Soon Chows, that's still like another 20 or so more Mk4s.

Anyway AFAIK, Alexander Dennis doesn't have a Singapore distributor as of now. Their Asia Pacific branch is based in Hong Kong, and another one in Australia..that's probably why HK has the Enviros cause their branch & hence distributorship is there. Also explains why they (SBST) didn't buy Alexander Dennis, has something to do with the presence of distributorship locally.
That's why SMRT & SBST can buy MAN (ST Kinetics), MB (Cycle & Carriage), Volvo & Scanias locally, not to mention the China King Longs & odd Sunlongs somehow, cause those makes have local distributors in Singapore. Just to update you.
Although someone might want to enlighten me why there was the presence of Dennis Darts, Lances & Tridents bought new 10+ years ago? Is it because of UMW?
Trident was a special case...

Actually I was wondering how SBS bought the Tridents and Darts???
And how SCDF managed to buy the Dennis Sabre fire rescure trucks back then???

Remind me again why we had the 20 Tridents? Is it a leftover order by the HK operator or something? I think i read something similar..

Dennis Lances : Order was actually for a Malaysia bus company(if i m not wrong). However, the company doesn't have $$ to pay for it and they cancelled(i think) the order. Resulting the transfer of these Lances over. SMRT then purchased 2 Volgren bodied Lances later on.
Dennis Trident : Almost same story as the Lances, however, these tridents are for KMB actually.
found the first service to be mentioned in the quarterly review in september...
I wonder where your got the hear-say of the Trident....
cos the known ADD that KMB had to last min cancel the order was the MAN ADD.. No one knew that time Volvo ceased production of the Olympian and was going into VSO..

However, the Lances are not very popular nowadays. Currently, it serves mainly for Service 853, followed by 980. Services such as 167 and 855 used to have Lances as well, but now replaced by new WABs, especially Citaros.
